The head of the bolt I slipped into the shaft (not threaded in) failed.
Now a little bit of the head and the shank is pressed inside.
I'll eventually figure out how to remove it.
*My question is* after I get the pulley and broken bolt out, is the damage on the staft going to throw it out of usable balance?
From the pictures you can see that even when I get everything off, the end of the shaft has been deformed.
I'm abit confused with your post... but our pullies are press fit and what's in the end is a plastic dust cap.. if the snout became deformed, evenly sand/grind it down until you can press a pulley on again..some have had to cut their pullies off with a grinding wheel and will often hit the shaft , I actually had an sc like that awhile back and even with the snout grinded down abit to reaccecpt a pulley , it spun and everything perfectly fine.itle be pretty hard to throw it out of balance once a pulley is back tightly on and the constant tension of the belt too. Itle be fine..
I see how what I originally said could be confusing.
Instead of threading in a bolt to use as support for the center push screw on a puller, I just slid in a slightly smaller bolt where the head was still on the tip of the snout.
Soon I found out that the bolt I used was low grade and not large enough when the whole bolt got pushed into the snout shaft.
Anyways!
I got the pulley off and was able to remove the bolt.
But from the picture, you can see a bit of the mess I made.
I guess you're saying this shouldn't be a problem?
Agh , I see what your saying now.
your FIIIIIIIIIIIINE . Sand it down as smooth as possible with like some 500grit and don't go too crazy ,just enough to smoothen it out some and the new pulley should press on just fine..
I heated my pulley in the oven to 200 and then it made it so much easier but not needed.
