Coolerworx shifter guys chime in, I'm soon to join you
So I'm close to pulling the trigger on a coolerworx shifter finally but I have a few questions for those who have one..
I'm concerned the throws are too short , if they're about half of stock that'd be fine but if they're really short idk if I will like it. I do like SOME throw between shifts because imo it helps me locate gears better during fast aggressive shifts..
That brings me to my other question. How firm are they ? Will it hold upto a good,hard,2nd gear slam ?? Or will it cause issues or bushing stress over time ?
Now an installation question. Since my car is a pre-facelift do i need to purchase face-lift shifting cable or are my pre cables fine ?
last question, do you have a coolerworx your willing to sell rite now , if so ille purchase it now !
Thx for any help you guys can provide me with this...
So it says I need r56 shifter cables to install..... dang , now I need to chase those down and factor that price in too...
anybody any info or feedback on theirs ?????

I finally got my got my knockoff GP Garage version done this past weekend, can't help with your driving/throw question, but the fitment (cables and all) was just as expected, it was just a straight swap, with only cosmetic issues to work around. No issues with the cables on my facelift R52.
If you do get the shifter, make sure to get some sort of gasket (window trim works well) for the seal between the body of the shifter and the bottom cover plate.
While the Heat Shield covers it, it can, and will accumulate dust and dirt inside the body of the shifter over time.

thx for that tip and info !.. I'm really hoping to find a used one or one someone doesn't want anymore and save a few bucks but looks like I'm just going to be having to pay up if I want it, which BOY DO I EVER !!!!
On a side note looks like I will no longer have any use for my custom made shifter setup that consists of a Megan shortthrow shifter with an attached adjustable stalk with weighed carbonfiber shiftball aaaaaaand a carbonfiber hydropdipped cravenspeed shiftwell cover....
I'd sell the setup for 150$ plus shipping soon as I order my coolerworx OR trade them for facelift/r56 shifter cables in good condition...
lmk if anyone is interested, who ever wants 1st dibs lmk.. honestly it's an awesome shifter setup I'm only changing it because I have a bad shifter bushing and always wanted a coolerworx so if I'm taking out my shifter for a 3rd time , it's getting replaced with a coolerworx..
I need to update my build thread, it's been a really long time, but here's my install anyway:
niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice...
I'm attempting to buy one rite now but idk where to order from. I seen this place called speedingparts.com but the company looks fishy and then I see them directly from I belive to be coolerworx them selves which is the route I may go. I found a 3rd seller which I belive is on the u.s but they have a 90$ markup vs coolerworx so idk about that. I think id rather wait a week longer than pay an extra 100 almost...
but if you have any leads plz lmk ,, if not I might just order from here

Honestly, when I bought mine, the GP Garage version was $150 less than the Colerworx (if I remember correctly) but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
I basically just contracted them to make sure they were shipping to the US, and payed through PayPal for the conversion, and just a little security on my purchase.

never even knew of a gp one... ille look into them...
good idea with PayPal
actually I did see those shifters...lolol made me wanna get a sequential but far too much for me ..
I can't belive I just did this.....
800$ later..... ITS ON ITS WAY !!!!!!!
now i need to sell a few more things or trade them for some facelift shifter cables or get out to one of our local salvage yards and snag them..

As you already know, you'll need the facelift cables. Install is best with two people. One in the car and one under. Chopping up the console took the longest. It's worth taking your time.
The gp shifter, cae and coolerworx all look identical except that gp has nice covers over the cup holders and shifter cavity. At least that what it looks like from blwnaway pics. I have the coolerworx carbon version. I love it, but way at way motor says his complaint is when shifting too quickly he feels like he can shift faster than the synchros can keep up. I haven't done a track day yet so I can't comment.
I found on etsy actually someone makes and sells covers for the coolerworx for like 20$ only...ille need to get a trim ring as I tossed my old one away with the boot..derderder
and I can get new cables shipped for 160 new but trying to find a cheaper option as I'm dang near tapped out after buying the shifter..

It took me 2-3 times as long to cut the console and make the covers, than it did to do the actual shifter install.
Depending on how the covers you found are made, they might even come in handy to have before hand, a properly cut set of trim rings would make some great templates and remove much of the guess work and measuring when it comes to actually cutting up the console itself.

by chance do you know if the 07-13 shifter cables are the same as the facelift cables ??? It says on coolerworx that the shifter is r53/r56 so id assume the shifter cables would be the same then... I sure hope so as they're half the price.

Link to Etsy. I'd be interested in the vibes rather than fabbing a set myself.
Go with a CAE instead of a copy cat, don't have to change any cables
if you wanna pay the extra 500 I'd glady....imo almost 800 is crazy price as it is but then why would I pay almost 1/3 more for something dang near exactly the same... plus now for under the price of the cae I got new shifter cables and a cover for the shifter and still would have another few hundred left... don't get me wrong , if I had the money to play , play I would but I'm trying to ball on a budget..my whole build has gone the budget route...
sprintex, tpr2 head , ns1 cam , ebay parts ect ect. Only few things did i get the best of and that was because I had no choice. I purposely am using budget parts on my car . I atleast try them and if they're not satisfactory, I send them back..but I like being able to test 1st hand these budget parts and then give 1st hand feedback on them so if somebody somewhere is looking to do that type mod but money is a factor , they can see my build and ask me about said parts and my 1st hand experience with said parts..
just like adriancl the mini tuner master , I'm pretty sure my car was like the 2nd one on this forum he did and now the man's done many many since then . Lol I've personally had like 10x different mini from others or my other cars I sold tuned by him. When he came in he slaughtered the competition with his price ,quality and service. But then , other tunes were the go to and that has done a 180 now. Imo if you need a custom tune , he's the goto guy !

Soooooo can anyone explain my issue you could say I ran into.
sooooooo upon further inspection my car HAS to have facelift cables on it already BUUUUT how could that be possible wgen my shifter box has a sticker on it from 02' lol my car is an 04'.. do you think someone kinda hodge-podged pieces together when they put in the different engine n trans ?? How odd....I'm not complaining though because that's almost 200 saved sending the ones back to partsgeek . And about those THEY DO NOT FIT , THEY ARE EACH ABOUT 2FT TOO LONG !!!! can you 2x check the parts # to see what they're supposed to go to , my guess is the 4dr r56s or the countryman or one that is abit longer where it would have the shifter sit back further..I WAS going to just install tge cables to have new shift cables but yeah can't do that buuuuut thank GOOOOOOD p.o put facelift cables on...
anyways with getting the sifter in , I had to disassemble it abit. I had to remive the chrome adjustment rod AND the top attachment fir it , I also had to dremmel my shift tunnel abit then to clear the bottom connector of that adjustment rod. But I got the cables all hooked up and the shifter mounted. Tomorrow I'm going to have my buddy help me get the set screws it to get the engagements correct and reverse lockout setup. I will also cut my center counsel up to get it to fit around the coolerworx and once the vanity cover arrives that will be the final touch.. here's a peek at progress..
I also found this thing on the trans im pointing at. It's a bracket , i need a new one as mine seems to have excess play I the little notch that presses and engages. It'd held in with a rivet it looks like and if I get that good with this new shifter and I cleaned up n greased my cables , all should be smooth ! Anyone have a lead on this part ???
Looks good. Seems like you ran into more issues than I did. Perhaps there's more differences in face lifted and pre facelifted cars. I dunno. Keep at it.
