R50/53 Question about air conditioning
Question about air conditioning
I have a 06 r53 and the ac blows air but not cold. It seems to blow same temp as outside. I have put some r134 in it because it was low when I bought car. I also put the manifold gauges on it and it seems to compress air correctly and the pump seems to be working due to the readings. The r134 has dye in it and I did not see any leaks in the engine compartment components. No leaks noted at expansion valve either. Im not sure when the condenser or dryer has been replaced. I removed the driver footwell cover so I could inspect the expansion valve.
With a/c on, expansion valve got cold but seemed to whistle abit. The lower tube coming out of the valve was cold also and the upper tube was warm. Cant see evaporator. Anybody have any idea what could be the culpret?

FWIW:
When my AC "went out" (only blowing ambient/warm air), It turned out to be the clutch coil.
I don't know much about AC units or really, how to diagnose. However, an $80 coil (Ebay) and 2wo hours of my time - fixed my issue.
The dealer would not replace just the coil. They would only replace the entire compressor/condenser = $2,300.
Hope things work out for you.

Thanks for the response. My clutch coil and compressor is working. Im thinking it may be the evaporator, exp valve, dryer, blender doors or something like that. Hoping someone with more knowledge may reply.
Today I removed the glove box to see some of the internal mechanisms of the air box. I noted that the big door on top the cabin filter opens when ac on and closes when heater on. I have read that there is an arm to the left on the center box that is supposed to move at some point. I turned on and off ac, turned on heater, used all the buttons to move the air from top/mid/ and lower (which all worked). I never saw the arm move. It was attached at the bottom. Could this be my problem?

Thanks for the thread suggestion and I read it and did some more troubleshooting. So the small tube coming into evap from expansion valve gets cold. The large tube is ambient temp and not cool. The temps at the dash vents are outside temp which was 75. The temp at the glove box vent hole at the evap box was 62 (im probably abit low on freon). Again I cycled through all the settings and the arm on the evap box in center console on pass side did not move. The big door behind glove box that filter is in opens and closes with heater coming on and off. So could my problem regarding airflow, be the evaporator blend door, the module that controls it, or my dash controller? Im not sure if that is the arm for it that is not moving.

I'm having intermittent issues w/mine sometimes it's blowing cold sometimes not cold at all. I think I got auto temp control (chilipack whatever that is). I pulled a bunch of codes that won't clear, seems like every AC related sensor is faulty so leads me to believe it's likelier some control unit is (solar sensor, evap temp sensor, evap temp sensor, outside air temp sensor)

A new thread, including all the codes you're reading, will provide the most help for you, and for the next person searching with symptoms similar to yours.
Did you get a chance to get this resolved? If so, what was the solution? Thanks! Wth similar symptoms on my daughter's R52S, and reading back through other threads here, I'm leaning towards needing to replace the expansion valve.
For others who had been watching this thread for a solution, I am tracking my AC repair in this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ompressor.html . So, when I find my solution the results will be updated there.
