7-Hole 15" alloys...small dilemma

Does anyone have any good pictures of a MINI with these wheels. I haven't seen one yet. I know what the wheels look like, just not on a MINI. A few MINIs on ebay have them, but the pics are at weird angles making the wheels hard to see.

I'm a little nervous about them. I'm getting such a nice car, with xenons and everything, that I really don't want cheap looking wheels killing the appearance.

If I go for the $600 16" sport alloys upgrade...I'll drop the xenons. I don't want to spend that much. I'm not sure which would add more to the overall look of the car.

Does anyone have any opinions?

Does this help you at all?

The only thing I don't like about the holies, is I wish they were bigger. Recently though, I purchased 16" v-spokes with run flats and the holies will be reserved for auto-x -- since they're really light.

yep..that helps. Thank you

They do look a bit small though...hmm

My three highest-priced options are the sunroof, the DSC, and the xenons.

I am not changing my mind on the sunroof...that's my favorite option.

If I do get the 16" wheels, either the xenons or the DSC will have to go.

I sense another trip to the dealership in the near future.

Personally, I'd lose the DSC -- but I've never had it so i wouldn't know what I'm missing. I really like the look of the xenons.

Yuck ....but......

I would not drop your factory installed options such as DSC and Xenons for a wheel upgrade Take a look in the marketplace forum and think about it How many people are selling their used DSC,Xenons, or sunroof? None ! These are options that are far to costly to change after purchase. I would Take the 7 hole wheels now and buy some X-lites when someone sells a set later on. I have a set of & holes on my IB/IB JCW S and they make the car look sort of silly, but these are my snow tires so come March I am back to my R90s . Think about using your 7 holes for autoX. Go for the factory installed options

I'd get the 15" rims and keep the other options. If you want more bling with wheels, go aftermarket. Better looking, lighter wheels are readily available & cheaper. Also aftermarket tires are MUCH better.

I HATE the runflats....noisy, harsh, prone to punctures (I've had 3 go out) and EXPENSIVE - try $169 ea. from Tirerack or $200 locally....

Dunlops are the worst, with Pirellis euphorias a close second. The best were Goodyear Eagles. (I've had 2 MC's & one MCS so far) I'd put on Falken Ziex 512 or the FK 451 (which are the mutt's nuts in the rain, I'm in FLA)

I want the MCS 17" alloys (R85). I think they fit the MINI the best. 17" is also a perfect size, imo.

Maybe i'll just get the cheapo wheels now, and buy the nicer ones off ebay or something later on.

Whatever I get though, I'll be stuck with for awhile. When I buy the MINI, I won't have a ton of excess cash at hand to go buy new wheels. I'll be stuck with the 15" holeys for a good six months. Plus, I'm sure my parents would love it if I said I wasn't happy with my new $20k car, and wanted to spend more money on it. It's been enough of a hassle trying to talk them into letting me get my MINI, never mind all the options.

I'm seriously thinking about dropping most of my options and just getting the sunroof and 16" wheels.

I can live without xenons, DSC, and heated seats. They don't add much to the "look" of the car, and at 18 I don't need the added expense.

Highly recommend you keep both the DSC and the Xenons.... the lights are awesome, the make the car look good and make it so much better to drive at night!

Also DSC has saved my butt many a time and is especially handy when it is raining. Keep in mind that you wll be driving a stick with a good bit of pull in it so no matter how much you may limit it the wheels are going to get away from you every now and then. Now I am not saying a good driver can correct for this but it can help in a hairy situation you weren't expecting or prepared for.

Stick with the wheels you are getting and you can always find a used set later very easy here on NAM or on eBay.... You can then put the 15's up for sale to recoup most of the money you spend.....

Maybe get rid of the CWP unless you live in the frigid north....

Chris

You can always tell your parents it is a safety thing and that you need the DSC for safety and that bigger tires will help with better traction on the road..... work it for all its worth!

You gotta keep the Xenons, bub. They are the ONE option I HAD to get when I ordered my wife's 05 MCS. They are absolutely awesome, it is so cool when they light up! Its like Star Wars!

Seriously, though, Xenons are a great feature and the extra light it gives you at night is well worth it!

Get rid of the DSC. You'll have ASC anyways. And agree with everyone else, just get the crappy wheels and upgrade at a later period. You don't know what kind of wheels you have when you're driving anyways, so save up for them!

I agree with the notion of keeping the DSC and Xenons from the factory and buying aftermarket wheels. You get SO much more for your money going aftermarket on wheels.

That's my .02

Get the holies! Stick with the DSC and Xenons for safety. You are a young driver, the DSC will surely be of benefit to you. The holies are cool, there is nothing wrong with how they look. Plus, they are lightweight, the lightest of the OEM MINI wheels. The 16" sport wheels that are offered as an upgrade are heavier than the V-spokes. The S-lites, I wouldn't get them for your car as they are very heavy and though the Cooper has plenty of power, why rob it having to get heavy wheels going?

Later you can get other wheels, aftermarket or OEM take-offs from somebody. Remember, the smaller, more narrow wheels are better for all season driving, snow, etc. I do believe you are in a northern climate? That's also a consideration. I use the holies with the all season Continentals as snow tires. Bought them as take-offs. Which brings me to my next point, the holies are quite desirable in the aftermarket because of their light weight, you should have no problem selling them when you're ready to upgrade.

Stick with what you have, stop second guessing yourself! You will be very pleased when your MINI comes in.

KRGMini05,

If you keep the 15" holeys you get the smooth riding Continental tires. They don't allow for high performance but they will do the job for normal street driving. You still get a spare compact tire. The rims are 12 pounds each so the whole wheel is lightweight and a good match for the MC.

The 16" upgrade wheels might look nicer but the runflat tires are very firm riding. You have a much bigger selection of wheels and tires at reasonable prices later.

DSC is good from a safety perspective (turn it off if you drive on the track or go to driving school and want more performance). Xenons are brighter and self leveling-nice feature and great if you drive at night much. Both options add to resale value.

If you choose to keep your 15" wheels you can put wider performance tires on them for relatively lower cost. 205/55-15 size. 15" rims also make for good snow tires for those in colder areas.

Another picture- White holeys with indi blue MC

OK OK.....I'll stick with the holeys.

NOw here's comes part 2: silver or white? Keep in mind that my car is red with a white roof. I like how the white looks on minihune and lot15's MINIs, but I don't think they'd look as good on the red. I'm leaning toward the silver, what do you think?

I vote for white, but you'll feel like you have to clean them more often! White stands out more, maybe give the illusion of being slightly bigger than silver and will bring more attention to the wheels.

I saw a MINI with 205/55/15 Yokos (AVS-ES 100) and it looked much better than the stock size rubber.

These will be my winter wheels as I'm planning on picking up a set of S-Lites shortly after I get my MINI. I like 'em too much, the weight of them is fine with me.

Get the silver then. I see you are in NH - so you get snow, right? Well, I'm in NE Ohio, and I'll tell you what, the DSC is awesome for the snow and slick roads. I agree with you on the sunroof. This is my first car w/ a sunroof, and I'll never have one without it again. Definitely get the Xenons. They have that "glow" about them that really make the car...

But yeah, get the wheels aftermarket...

Edited to add - will your car be parked outside, and are you still trying to find places to cut costs? It's in the teens here this morning, and my car was in the non-heated, poorly insulated garage. He started out real slow, but within a matter of minutes, he was toasty. To me, heated seats are a luxury. Oh yeah, I have the leatherette, too. It doesn't seem to be too cold when you first sit in it!

I actually like these even better than the S-Lites:

Does anyone know the name of them? I have a feeling they'd be much harder to find than the S-Lites though, especially since they only come on the convertible.

Hey, if you don't like the 7-Holes, isn't there another 15" no cost option? I think it's called the rocket and has 5 spokes.

Here's a link:https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...tachmentid=582

The other 15" option when I bought my MC was 8-spokes. That's what I got:

Then I got a set of holees to mount snow tires on. So I use both, depending on the time of year (I'm in southern NH too).

Yeah, I have a set of those too. They're sitting in a corner in my garage if anyone is interested. I think the "rocket" wheel replaced this 8-spoke wheel. I couldn't get in MINIUSA to confirm though.

They have other options?

I like the 8-spoke better than the holeys, but they seem to have disappeared from the options list.

I REALLY like those Rockets, but when I' built my car on miniusa.com they didn't show them as options at all. They are the standard wheels on the Cooper convertible though.

Can anyone confirm wheather or not the rockets can replace the holeys on the Cooper?

If that's true, that would solve my dilemma.
