Wiper/Lock madness. Need help.

Hello all.

So my '06 R50 has some gremlins. The windshield wipers have stopped working and are stuck in the upright position. On occasion, the rear hatch wiper stays on and won't stop until I turn the headlights on and off. And also my power door locks don't work. I can hear a faint click when I flip the switch, but that's it.

I have read that the locks could be that the actuators have failed. I have purchased a set of new motors to try and fix them myself, however if it's more simple than that then let me know. I appreciate any help you can offer. Cheers.

I had some windshield wiper issues that turned out to be a relay. do NOT try to buy some BS from the parts store, as it will just cause more issues. I ended up swapping a relay from elsewhere to verify that relay was what was the issue. The relay was a bit of a pain in the *** to get to if i remember correctly, behind the cabin fuse box, or near it? Basically if the relay is your issue and it's verified when you swap relays, order an OEM/genuine relay. The local parts store had the correct part, but the resistance values differed enough to cause MORE issues...

FYI: my wiper issue was they would randomly go off at varying speeds.

Regardless, all of these issues sound like an electrical issue, and could all be related (bad/missing ground, corrosion, water, failed relays, etc) Good luck >.>

Thank you Aindrid. Looks like I've got my work cut out for me. I will need to find that relay you speak of. Cheers.

Oh lord. Look at the state of it. I'm gonna need some new plugs by the look of it. Might as well get a new BCU while I'm at it. Does anyone know how to unplug the GREEN plug from the box? I'm almost destroying the thing.

glad you found the probable issue, unfortunate that it looks this bad. the body control module looks expensive new, would look for parts cars, or there's a dude on FB that owns a Mini junkyard, he could prob hook you up. He'll probably give you some guidance on how to remove that as well, and best way to replace the plug. IMO cutting and soldering to a used plug would be best, but I'm not afraid of soldering and heat shrinking all of those wires. Only other way I can think would be cutting, stripping and repinning them in a new connector?

Yeah, I'm gonna have fun soldering a replacement plug in that cramped space. The price of a new BCU is ludicrous. Second hand market here we come...

The green plug has a mechanical lock. You should be able to slide the top lock towards the left in the pics using the ribs to grip it. Once released it should just unplug.

So I went ahead and ordered a second hand BCU complete with plugs. I managed to get that RIDICULOUS green plug off of these BCUs. It took a lot of struggle to slide it fully in order to disengage it. I then had a look inside my unit to see the condition. There's unfortunately some corrosion on one corner of the PCB by the white plug. I will see if I can unsolder it and replace it with the newer clean one. Does anyone know the best way to clean the corrosion off of my existing board without damaging it? Will some mild detergent and a soft brush take care of it?

Here are some photos of the BCUs. Cheers.

Some contact cleaner and a toothbrush should get most of the corrosion off without damaging the board.

I double layer PCB, hard to repair if it is heavily corroded.

I went ahead and ordered some CRC Electronic Cleaner to help lift the corrosion and clean off the PCB. I'll start on replacing the plugs of the BCM tomorrow. I have high hopes that it will clean up pretty well.
