Hello,

I've lurked on the board for a while and this is my first post. I got a DS/W MCS about a month ago and recently encountered a strange problem with the windshield wipers (it was the first time I used them - I live in Southern California). For about the first 20 minutes, everything was working fine including the rain sensing function. Then suddenly the wipers stopped working on both the rain sensing setting and the slow position. Only the fastest speed would work and I could hold down the wand for the single wipe. Also, the wipers would never go back to their original position when I turned them off. They would just remain right in the middle of the swipe.
I tried the wipers again the next morning and everything seems to be fine now. Has anyone experienced this problem? I'd hate to take the car in only for the dealer to tell me they can't replicate the problem, but I'm also concerned about getting stuck with no wipers if it rains again.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I don't have the rain sensing wipers (But did order them on my upcoming '04 MCS) and haven't had any problems with them. This weekend we have have very nasty weather here in Florida and the windshield wipers and rear hatch wiper worked remarkably well in handling the rain downpurs during our 900+ mile roadtrip around the state this weekend.

I think the rain sensing wipers are a cool "toy" but if these are known to cause problems such as yours I might drop them from my current order all together. The "Manual" wipers work great.

Hope you get your problem sorted out. I have the impression that you have a bad sensor that is causing the erratic wiper behavior. The last thing you want to happen is to lose your wipers during torrential rain when driving at 70+ MPH.

Thanks. I'll probably take it in next week to have them check it out.

Got almost 10K on the car here in the soggy Northeast (didn't think I'd get to say that after last year!) and haven't had any real issues with the rain sensing wipers. On ocasion I think they turn on when they are not quite needed, but other than that, not a worry...

I have a question regarding the rain sensing wipers. Today was my first time in the rain. I know that the wiper has to be in the "1" position for rain-sensing to be active. My question is this: if I leave it in the "1" position and switch the car off, when I restart, is the rain-sensing option acive? Or do I have to switch to "0" then back to "1" to re-activate each time I start the car.
Today, the rain-sensing seemed to do just that; only work when I 'activated' it after starting the car. Is that normal? I was under the impression I could leave the stalk in the "1" position indefinitely, and the rain sensors would be active.

About 6 weeks ago, the wipers just stopped working also in rainy weather..
I put in a new fuse and it reset and worked fine, Fuse did not looked burnt or broken but hey , it fixed the problem..
It just happened again tonight.
I tried to replace the fuse, but still they don't work..
Anyone out there have a similar problem, please share....
I intend to take it to the dealer this weekend...
Thanks
