I'm new to the forums and need some help troubleshooting my car. This is my first Mini, '06 Cooper S. I bought it cheap because it doesn't start. I did the basic checks and it cranks strong but has no spark. I did several searches here and figured it was an EWS that was out of sync. I used several threads to install INPA, purchased a
, and jumped pins 7 - 8. I'm able to read some parameters from the car. I can see the EWS fault, but I can't reset it. This is what I'm seeing:
For some reason, there are some body modules that it won't read, I get the same error. I can see the VIN, I can see the TPS working properly. The BCM has some corroded pins but everything inside the car works so that shouldn't cause the no spark issue (I'm working on fixing that separately).
I don't think it's a software issue since I'm able to communicate with the car, I thought it was because I didn't jump pins 7 - 8 but nothing changed after that. Any ideas or someone in the Tampa area that can help me?
I have verified that the ECU is the stock one (VIN matches), placing an order today for map and tmap sensors to rule them out.
I've been told that INPA won't be able to reset the EWS, maybe because it's a 4.3? Still unclear if it's a software issue, config issue, or an issue with one of the modules.
I ordered an AK90+ kit so I can verify the key is properly coded to the EWS, but won't be here for a few weeks.
Any insight into the problem is greatly appreciated.

If have INPA working , try this-sorry for bad video quality.
It can happen when the car runs out of battery for a long time, or when the battery is disconnected from the car many times.

Thanks for your response. This is the process I'm following, both reset and learn give me the error I posted, which is why I don't know if it's a software issue, an issue with the cable, OR an issue with one of the modules in the car.
Borrowed a Schwaben scanner from a friend, some people say it's the same as INPA. It's giving me an EWS code 1656, there is an option to service the EWS but it says the model doesn't support it. Has anyone seen this before?
I am having the exact same issue. Can you tell me where you bought the ews from?
I got it from the dealer. You can get a used one on ebay or AllMag (there are other sites that sell used EWS) but mine has a warranty on it so it was worth the extra money.
