Leaking issues with new slave cylinder/oil pan gasket
Hi all,
Hope all is well. I recently installed a new slave cylinder and oil pan gasket and there's a leak in both cases unfortunately. As for the slave cylinder, I'm seeing brake fluid seeping out of the bottom of the boot that covers the piston. Is it possible the piston's seal blew because I compressed it too much? I used two long bolts and plumber's tape and just continuously compressed and hand tightened the nuts until I couldn't compress it any more. I bought an FTE slave cylinder rather than OEM.
I bought a Fel Pro gasket for the oilpan and I'm getting a leak where its mating surface mates with the bellhousing. I even removed it to try a different bolting order to no avail. I watched the Mod Mini video on doing this and I noticed he was able to put the oil pan back on without much trouble but I had a lot of resistance coming from the lower engine mount bracket that connects to the oil pan. It basically wouldn't let me push the oil pan back enough for proper bolting alignment. I had to remove the bracket, install the oil pan, fit the bracket on with its 4 bolts that attach to the oil pan, and swing the engine forward a bit with a pry bar so I could align the bolt that goes through the bracket and lower engine mount's smaller bushing. I'm thinking maybe this issue had something to do with the fact that I only had the front of the car raised and the engine was swinging back and giving me clearance issues to reassemble. But more importantly, has anyone had issues with oil leaks at the mating surfaces of the oil pan/bell housing? I think I have a spare oil pan from my parts mini and am contemplating bolting it on to see if there's a difference.
Thanks for any help!
