19 % have been used, mostly in the UK, the US tuners really frowned on it
Its been debated numeriois times and the last tests I was reading about a 20% pulley , with correct mods around it actually provided GREAT gains . But don't think you can just throw on a 20% and a few bolt ons and you'll be OK.
alternator getting overdriven doesn't happen and inadequate waterpumps wont survive very long. But its doable.
people laughed when someone said he'd kswap his r53 , well. Its now been done numerous times.
a 20% wouldn't be ideal for my setup as yes you don't wanna go past 6900 rpm with it and I plan on reving my car out , im already at 7300 so I may be dropping back down from a 17 to a 15..

In regards to pushing the boost on the stock charger, it seems like you could make something work for a strong pull on the dyno, but what’s the point?

You want it to make consistent, reliable power.

A dyno Queen under 300whp is hilarious anyway.

A good supension setup with some nice tires will help you put that power down once you do the BVH and cam.

Could also be that as I get older, putting on $1000 of parts on my R53 to make sure it’s smooth and reliable is more satisfying to think of than a BVH. Lol.
My car is top notch and in excellent working order. Clutch was replaced last fall suspension is all new with urethane bushings

Ok guys drop it I’ve already said no big deal I was just questioning. I’ll throw a cam in and maybe a BVH and done, whatever it makes is what it makes. It already pulls hard but would like a little more and think those two items will fit the bill and will be done.

I was not refering to you at all it was towards Adam. You have said what you had planned to do. I dont think anything that followed after that was towards you. None of mine were for sure.

And for the record nothing is better than the stock intercooler or GP intercooler. So many people will tell you otherwise to justify their own purchase. I actually dropped the Airtech intercooler and went back to sotck on my tvs900 55mm pulley setup. People love to push products but if you talk to anyone who makes legit power not just bolt on ***** power you will see most if not all are on stock or gp which is mildly better given the cost these days. Its funny to watch the intercooler fads over the years come and go this and that there is actually a website out there that lists EVERY intercooler for the r53 and what at the time their BS claims were. I make legit power. Not m45 15% pully and a TOON yup TOON as in Maroon TOON. Best bet talk to people with legit power not some mail order ***** power.

The only other legit tmic that was ever worth a ***** was the Defenders of Speed Copper one.

These R53's seem to make good dollar per HP right up to around 225hp-235hp area. After that, you have to spend exponential amounts of money to get that last 65+hp out of them. Unless you have a sponsor, or just like spending tons of money on a Mini..it's just not worth it.

Like others have said...$12-$15 should be a good start.

That being said....I picked up an 07' BMW 335i for $3,500....added around $1,500 worth of bolt-ons, and it's now making close to 450hp at the rear tires. And I still have my MINI as a daily driver
