Drivetrain hp claims
hp claims
just for kicks, I have added up the hp claims from another webb site. Now I don't know if these are wheel hp claims or estimated crank hp claims, so here we go, and I'm going to assume wheel hp:
chip 7-10whp
pulley 16 hp
cam 5-8 hp
throttle body 5 hp
cat back ex 9 hp
header 7-9 hp
intake 5-7 hp
head 10-19 (trickier)
now we all know these aren't additive, right? nevertheless, they add up to 64-80 hp at the wheels.
A stock S will wheel at about 147 hp, so if you add it all up, you get 211.
my rig was dynoed at 212, the only extra bit was better tuning and larger injectors.

but in the end.... does it really matter?
look what I started

I WAS THINKING THAT SAME THING AS I WAS PURUSING THE SITES AT THE 250 HP CLAIMS.......HOW?

you fabricate them....
as I recall, over the last two years or so:
my rig has been on Helix' Mustang dyno many times. it was an early mule for testing several exhausts: stock 147whp (had an intake), Rogue, Supertrap, Helix...all on the same day. After putting on the head, One-click, 19%, header throttle body and cam, we got 179 at Helix.
Went up to Hubie at SPI, he measured 177 on his dynojet. He put on the Apex and tweaked it to 198 whp...couldn't break 200.
next week he put in 440 injectors and re-tweaked to get 212 and that was holding back a bit.

the Apex is worth 10-15whp like he said... it's a good bang for the buck
I have eliminated the stumble I got from the V39 software with the Apex
Yeah, I think if anything, my numbers may be a bit low - as we know they aren't additive, yet they do add up pretty close on your car!
Here's what I have on my car engine wise, and I have tested it in every different way to get the most out of the parts on the market:
Alta intake
WMS throttle body
Hand ported intake piece from the TB to the supercharger
Alta supercharger pulley
WMS ported/polished intercooler runners
WMS Intercooler
Pilo coilpack
Nology plug wires
Denso IK22 sparkplugs
Big fuel injectors (if I remember right - 400cc)
WMS head/valves
Schrick cam
Alta crank pulley
Milltek header with race cat
Custom cat-back exhaust
Custom ECU programmed on the dyno
All of this netted 221 at the wheels - and it is quite a bit more in terms of cost and parts than most of the packages on the market. That's what it realistically takes to get those numbers though. That would be 251hp at the crank using a 12% driveline loss.
Cool thread

Anyway, if you have the diagram I'd be very interested in taking a look. Or if Steve installs them, any idea how much he charges?
EDIT: BTW, what changes did you make to get rid of the stumble? Did you just lean it out a lot off-idle?

You will have to ask steve on install
i leaned it out some in the stumble area... it was pig rich
I have NEVER had a problem with him returning phone calls or emails...

It is a fuel controller. The Unichip you have does the same thing with better resolution - we just have to tune it for your car on the dyno. You also have timing adjustability and a host of driver possibilities.
Hope that helps!

Thanks
also allows 2maps so when you want to use race gas you can already have it programed in for ease of use

I have been tuning my twincharge with the apex on the road with my wide-band PLX gauge and it is running much better. Still need to get on a dyno to really tweak it ..... I have to say it is one of the best mods I have (not counting the turbo) The car is such a joy to drive now even at lower RPMs. Throttle response has improved dramatically.
JLM, any comments on the a/f ratio on that dyno sheet? It looks like it stays above 12.0 up until about 5k rpm - is that considered okay for the MINI? I'm not implying anything good or bad, just not sure what is the accepted norm in the world of MINI tuning!

14.6 is normal
12 is considered "safe" under heavy load
