I currently own (...but am never in posession of) a Mercury Tracer (rock solid) which, as a new driver, my son takes to school.

Owned (...but, again, never posessed) a brace of Honda Accords and Civics. (kids drove 'em, totaled them...except the last one that refused to die.)

In the '90s I had a Geo Metro...which was awesome only in that it got 43 mpg!!

Years ago I also had a '67 Spitfire and a Datsun RL411. It was the Spitfire that lingered in my imagination 'til the new MINI came out.

You are a Daimler-Chrysler family indeed! (Right down to the Chrysler engine in your MINI).

How are the Mercedes' holding up? I keep hearing and reading complaints about the poor quality of Mercedes Benz vehicles in general (Exception seems to be the AMG models) and their less than reliable electronics. Mercedes used to be the standard of the world in terms of engineering and quality.

I've had two CRXs, a Prelude, a 1981 Land Cruiser, and I currently have a '95 Dodge Ram and my other fun car which the MINI kicked out of the garage...a 1988 Mazda 323 GTX. The Mazda is now for sale.

'65 Triumph TR4. My dad bought it new and fourteen years later it is what I learned to drive in. It disappeared one year while I was away at college. Still bummed about loosing that one.

'80 something Mazda 626. Bought used. Then blew it up.

'77 Datsun King Cab pickup. Hand-me-down from an uncle. Drove it to 220,000 miles then finally towed it to the dump.

'95 Subaru Imprezza. Not long before it gets towed to the dump as well.

'02 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab.

But my true loves:

'89 Honda GB500. Bought new and learned to ride before heading 16,000 mi off around the country on it. Epic adventure.

'88 Honda NT650 Hawk. Bought used and have since sold. My wife has one so we did not need two.

'94 Honda XR650L. Bought used to ride to Alaska. Another epic adventure. Have since sold to purchase Cagiva.

'64 Norton Atlas. Bought used and have since traded for Ducati. Probably should have kept it.

'00 Cagiva Gran Canyon. Bought new. The ultimate motorcycle.

'99 Ducati 900 Supersport.

I have not been too interested in cars the last ten or so years but have always had a craving for something to fill that longing for my old Triumph. My wife and I used to rent Miatas for long weekends and tour the California Coast but could never afford to buy our own. Finally when we had the money we also had two young kids. As a kid I spent many miles in the back of the TR4 but that just is not possible in a miata.

With the release of the MINI convertibles our dreams are fulfilled. The two wheeled vehicles are still my passion but I am looking forward to again experiencing driving for more than just transportation. Is April here yet?

My list is short:

-'89 Honda Civic LX 4-door - Good car but the air conditioning went out and I sold it

-98 Honda Civic DX - Fantastic car that was rock solid

-02 VW GTI 1.8T - Constant repairs, sold it right before warranty expired.

-05 MINI cooper S - Very Pleased so far

Seems like alot of MINI drivers used to own hondas and VWs.

[QUOTE=sleepy_nokkie]What other car do you had or have beside the Cooper ??

84' VW Rabbit .. first car

Mine was an '83 Rabbit. I had a metalic light blue 2 door (GL? or LS?) I bought it for $125 and rebuilt the engine, brakes, exhaust. I loved that car.

Then came the '85 GTI that I got for $500 because the timing belt had like three teeth on it (not that the seller knew this). Replaced the timing belt, put a muffler from a Triumph on it, and I was good to go. That was a great car until it needed just about everything replaced at 289,000 miles.

Then there was the Jeep Commanche, which was very practical and did a good job of being a jeep and hauling things.

Now I have the MINI. Life is good.

I've had...
1977 Dodge Monaco (ex-CHP cruiser) 440, 4bbl Carter thermo-quad carb, dual exhaust, cop brakes and suspension, co -owned with a high school buddy. Pretty much the same car as seen in "The Blues Brothers" movie. It got 13 MPG, but could go in reverse at 75 MPH. Fastest forward speed recorded, 165 MPH! $900.00 Wrecked it!

1979 Ford Fairmont coupe (HS Grad purchase), bought new. $3600.00 Got rear-ended by a drunk, totalled!

1981 Dodge Diplomat (Ex-CHP vehicle), 318, from CHP auction $3175.00 Got towed off by the bank for non-payment! I abandoned it when I got tired of getting nickled and dimed to death!

1979 Dodge 150 Pick Up (also Ex-CHP), 360, was used by CHP for truck driver enforcement program, came with a camper shell. $1800.00 Sold it to a farmer after the odometer reached 214,ooo miles! Got $700 for it! It drove forever!

1985 Dodge Charger hatch-back, gift from parents when they bought a new T-Bird. Got rear-ended by an old man, totalled!

1985 Honda Accord, sedan, bought used. $1200.00 Quit running, too much $$$ to fix, donated it to a charity!

1991 Geo Metro hatch-back, bought used. $1800.00 Traded in, got $700 for it!

2000 Chevrolet Metro LSI sedan, bought new. $18,000.00 Sold it to CarMax for $2300. Started falling apart when the warranty ran out. Will never buy another American made car!

2004 Mini Cooper S, dream car! $33,000.00 We want to keep him way past the time we can show him in classic car shows.

Wish list: '49 Merc Coupe hot rod, chopped down roof-line and Edelbrock case motor, lot's of chrome and bling-bling. maybe when I retire!
