My mini has the regular halogen headlights fitted but I was wanting to fit the facelift xenon headlights. From what I've been reading MINI did a kit that made this possible but it is no longer available. Is there any other way of doing it?
I dont think it might be as easy as you think, especially if you want to do it with OE parts. My 2006 has automatic levelling, which has a sensor on the front and rear on the control arm. Then I can imagine that that the wiring loom is way different, but I dont know that for sure. The OE projectors have the washing system, which also needs the extra reservoir and plumbing off course. And some coding in the ECU might also be necessary.
Aftermarket would be way easier I can imagine, but that is also a assumption from my end
I am interested in seeing where this goes, I would love OE projectors but they all seem to have the notch for washers and im not a fan. Has anyone retrofit projectors ?
Thanks for your input. After posting this I went down the rabbit hole on multiple forums. I order a set of OEM HID projectors to give something a try that I was reading about. Mostly since I didn't like any of the aftermarket headlights that I found.
Here is what i found and will be attempting to make work once the headlights get here. https://www.minitorque.com/threads/r...-03-car.12632/ i will post pictures and what not if you guys what to follow along. It seems you can get away with not having to hook up the washers or auto leveling. I did stumble on another thread somewhere ( i didn't save the link) where you could hook up the washers on switch.
I had xenon on my R50. At first I had the pre facelift. Then I switched to the post facelift. Still did not like the lights. I switched to Spec D light. They are awesome an super bright.

Are they plug and play? I see they have a that notch for the headlight washers- do they have that function as well?
The main lights are plug an play. No they are there for looks. But I did make them functional.
The halos an blinker need to be wired in. Not hard at all.
I used these on the low beam.
I did a Morimoto HID projector conversion into Depo/Helix lights. You can get an adapter so that the new projectors bolt right in. They are super awesome. Unfortunately, the Depo/Helix lights don't seem to be available anymore.

Thank you for pictures. I am trying to put the same lights on my 2014 R59 Mini Cooper S.
I may have made a big mistake on mine.
Got them at a junk yard, but it was the kind that bots to the hood. Mine bots to the frame part. Anyway I had to cut and redo to fit the hood ones into my old ones.
was a job for sure. Mine old ones are so bad that I have a hard time driving at night. Try putting in LED bulbs but just a little better. So getting all this to work may be way to much to do. But so tired of trying to see at night. Your looks great and hope mine will work after I had cut up mine to get it to work. The ones on the hood are little and will not fit in the car. So trying to refit it in mine so that I can mount it to the car.
Yes I was successful in the retrofit. They are definitely a step up from the halogen. My only grip and im being picky here with it but the cut off isn't a crisp line like I had in my retrofitted lights on my truck. But they are amazing!!
@Tombstone this is the capacitor I used it goes on thr yellow and brown wire. Also I used some water proofing stuff for RC electronics to seal some of the cracks in the wires from being manipulated.

Hello, I am the French owner of a mini R52 S from 2006 with halogen headlights (phase 2).
I want to install phase 2 xenon.
I came across your topic, does the trick still work by adding the capacitor?
If you have more precise explanations, I would be grateful.
I'm not to sure about that one. I dug threw info for weeks and only could find it on a UK mini form. But I don't see why it wouldn't work on a phase 2. During my research before doing mine. There was people in the uk not have to alter the headlight wiring, it was fully plug n play for them. You could always try that first before having to alter the wiring.
