that's right. Atleast in the salom. Motor Trend's newest mag (I think Jan), has "The car of the year". The MINI didn't win the car of the year but they liked it a lot. Anyways the MCS went through the salom at 68.3 (close to that) and the Viper a little slower. Don't have the maf on me right now, but I will post the real times later. Motor On.

I believe Road and Track found that the base model (non-S) MINI was faster than a McLaren F1 in the slalom.

Basically the MINI can turn like almost no other car ever. That is what makes this little thing so darn special.

And it surprises me that so many people talk about which cars they can beat in a silly stoplight drag race that really does nothing to show off the MINI's true performance. . . .

hey, looked at the mag. again. The Viper went 67.2 mph and the MCS 68.2 mph. Granted that the Viper is not intended to be a corner eater, MINI's are by far a cheaper way to get the handling of a (much) higher priced car.

... even in the seventies a small bore Mini could beat a 'Vette 'round the cones at the local auto-x's - I had the privledge of proving that to a couple of co-workers who owned Flying ****** back then ...
... and there's the famous Ralley records of the '60's - proving to all of us that when you see a corner coming, you can step even harder on the Loud pedal.

Isn't it nice of BMW to build so much of the old car into the new one?

I have to admit that if I dusted a new Viper in the twisties and the guy later pulled up next to me at a stop light and asked, "wanna trade?" I'd take him up on his offer.

I hated the first gen, but OMG the new one is soooooo sexy!!

Everyone should check out this thread about the latest "Sport Compact Car" comparo. Both the Mazdaspeed Protoge Turbo, and Neon SRT-4 beat the MCS through the slalom.

So Dodge makes an inexpensive car that will beat the Viper too...and it will blow the doors off of an MCS.

The SRT-4 looks like crap though. And i still think with better tires the MCS could up the ante even more with its slalom time.

I agree, the Neon looks, well, like a Neon! And a MCS with stickier tires might give it the edge.
OTH, I for one think Chrysler did a great job with the SRT-4. It meets its intended function well-no frills, raw performance.

the new Z was tested at 70.2 with stock set up and at 71.2 with modified wheels & tires through the slalom at recent sport compact mag testing....pretty impressive....I think you are going to find more and more new sports cars coming out having terrific salom times as the hp and suspension gets better and better...damn, even the new neon was over 68 through the slalom.....Diamond Racing in San Diego which has tested all the minis told me the stock reg cooper was quicker through the slalom than the stock MCS because of the weight advantage which I guess makes sense....never liked the viper, like the Shelby Cobra, awesome acceleration, but the handling kind of scary, laugh..I'd take the 911 turbo if I wanted that much speed...
