Supercharger cost

What would be a good rebuilt supercharger if I don’t have a ton of money to spend for it? I’ve been on a few sites and want something reliable but just paid a ton of money out to an indie car place that screwed me over getting other stuff done. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It’s a 2005 Mini Cooper s 48000 miles

There are used ones for sale on here occasionally. This one was listed at $500 before it sold.

Out of curiosity, why does it need a supercharger at such low mileage?

It is currently at the dealership being looked over. When I got it back from the indie shop there was a horrendous creaking coming from the passenger side.

A friend of mine knows someone there that is going to look the car over. The indie mechanic said there was a small leak but I don’t trust anything he told me because I caught him in numerous lies. Can he get to the supercharger by changing the bushing and brackets on the car?

I just want to prepare myself in case it does so I won’t be taken to the cleaners again. The entire thing was not a pleasant experience. Thanks, I did see the above post for a supercharger and was just on there looking.

i think if the dealer comes back saying the supercharger I’ll put it up for sale on here. I’m not a mechanic and I’ve replaced so many things on it I think it’s better to just sell it. It’s in excellent condition w the chrono package so hopefully someone here is interested .

I'm no R53 expert, but I find it hard to believe you need a rebuild or even a fluid exchange at that low of miles. I did mine at 110k and it had lots of fluid still in it. It's a time consuming job, and if you've never done it before it best if you have another form of transportation just incase you run into problems.

Labor is expensive...

I paid 400 or 500 I think. The parts are relatively cheap but the labor is very expensive. Most of the work you will do on the mini can be done at home. Modmini on YouTube has a ton of resource videos that can give you an idea of time and cost.

I was quoted 2500k for the supercharger and clutch replacement by a private shop. I used this number to negotiate and then did the work with info I found here and YouTube. Clutch (Valeo) was 150ish and the SC was 4 or 500.

If you are going to pay someone for the work, it's going to be costly.

If the dealership comes back saying the supercharger is leaking I’m going to list it here. I’m a female and don’t work on cars. I’ve already invested a ton of money in the car having already replaced most of the issues with them. I want another mini but fixing them is costly so I’ve decided to lease for awhile. In the meantime I am waiting for the dealer to call with what they find.i just don’t want to put anymore money into it. Someone will be getting a great car as I babied it but it needs to go to someone who obviously likes to pay out the nose or likes to work on them.

Superchargers rarely fail precipitously, especially at that low mileage. There are other things driven by the same belt that can, however, cause problems and unpleasant noises. Water pump, crank damper, idler, alternator, tensioner, and a/c compressor.

I doubt it is the SC either. How would anyone even see a "small leak" coming from the SC. The oil is likely coming from somewhere else.
The indie basically robbed you based on reading your prior posts.

Hopefully the dealer you are at is honest. JAB 67 has listed good ideas for what may be making the squeal.

the Supercharger was not on the list of repairs from Mini. The creaking is the strut bearing/r/s strut top is cracked. That was what I originally brought the car in for was the creaking noise. I would think he should have seen and/or heard this when replacing the bushings brackets as the noise was obvious. Front O2 sensors s/b replaced and he also did an oil change but they are saying the oil pan gasket and crank sensor o ring (cheap part) needs to be replaced. A power steering fluid leak, to repair that they would need to replace the return hose and tank. Any idea how much the tank is? Is that the PS pump?

Front tires need to be replaced and the alignment done which the rip off shop just did an alignment and now it needs another?

Im getting an estimated cost on everything but the O2 sensors as I think I can wait (right?) if it’s costly I’m selling the car. If the bushings and brackets aren’t original mini parts (waiting for dealer to confirm) I’m going after the mechanic shop. I’m not going to let him get away with this. I’ll post what I need on google and his business webpage, better business bureau, Local Chamber of Commerce as well as word of mouth at work (my guys here know a lot of people). I’m also going to try to dispute some of the charges (if not mini parts etc).
