R53 caliper rebuild. Front and rear.

17 years later I figured I’d rebuild the calipers. Rears will be more challenging.

Interesting that yours say BMW on the calipers....my front's say MINI on them....I had to rebuild the fronts on mine...was not going to pay the many $$$$ that parts houses wanted for rebuilt units...if they could even get them...rebuild kits were around $6 each.....I needed rear calipers also...both were frozen...found a good deal for just under $270 for complete set of rear calipers with pads....

Good stuff, I like the color, better than the red most people go with. Anything of note to take care of or was a nuisance doing these? I think it is about time to do mine as well, what with that 17 years thing you mentioned.

Looking good!
Just a note on the rears, they are not that hard. I recently did mine. Be careful of the seal between the handbrake actuator and caliper. THERE ARE NO REPLACEMENTS! I contacted the caliper manufacturer, ATE, and it is NLA. Ecs tried finding it also, no luck. The kit from rock auto has all the seal except that one. See the link below for the seal I am referring to.

And if you find this seal some where, please share where!

Maybe on the Facelift models 05/06 they have BMW on the calipers. Mine is an 06 and also has BMW on the Calipers.

This one was built in August 2002 for the NZ/Aus market.

Buy a set of clamps to pinch the brake hoses, replace the copper washers on either side of the banjo fitting...use compressed air to drive the piston out but very gently and with a scrap of wood to ‘catch’ it as it comes out with a bang.

Don’t clean and paint on the same day because you will rush the first to achieve the second.

Don’t marry for money but don’t date poor girls. 😂

All of this is solid advice, much of which I knew but am glad to hear, lol.

I like that color - are you going to match it to anything else?

I'm planning to send my seat belts out to match to my calipers. I think that'll be neat. (But also it's the boring red option)

Mine is an '06 R52 JCW car, both on the front say Mini, original front calipers, wondering if the difference is because mine are JCW pieces
