INPA help..... please
INPA help..... please
I recently got an airbag light pop up on a 2006 MCS conv. Now I know these codes can't be erased and read by a regular code reader (of which I have a few). The recall for the airbag was done, so it's probably not that. I figured, what better time to get one of those cables and play around with my Mini. My ebay purchased cable is a K+DCAN and the listing said it was compatible with R52 of my year.
The software included with the cable doesn't seem to install well, and some software pack (Mike's tools something or other) I found on a BMW forum doesn't list any Mini models when I start INPA. Do I need a special Mini version of INPA? My understanding is INPA is what I need for my airbag light (unless I am wrong). My cable seems to work, since it seems to be recognized when connected to the car.

I wish I’d documented this better because I’m sure there are steps I forgot, but here’s the basic idea at the bottom of this thread. The real magic is GTECKO’s work. He or she deserves all the credit.

Thanks for your response. So I downloaded the "Mini Cooper Coding" folder. I installed the Mini Cooper Standard Tools 5.0 --> INPA,NCS EXPERT software following the instructions to the letter. When I start up INPA, I am not getting an options to choose a chassis (in fact none are listed)
Assuming you followed all the instructions successfully (the critical one I think being running LADEN.BAT from c:\NCSEXPER\DATEN\R50), then maybe you're OK. INPA doesn't offer me any choices, either. When I'm connected to my car, it just shows me two green indicators to say that it connectedI then quit INPA and go launch NCSExpert, which eventually offers you a choice of models. This is documented in "Guide to Mini Cooper Coding II.pdf" in GTECKO's package.
So, partial victory. I was able to install INPA and the chassis R50 shows up (I am assuming this is what I should use even though mine is an R52). I am able to read ECU codes fine, but when I get to the Airbag, I get an error " ifh-0009 no response from controlunit". Now by reading around here and other forums, my understanding is that pins 7 and 8 should be joined. I opened up the cable and they are not. Should I be jumping these two for my model of car?
Just to update my own thread. Figured I had nothing to lose by jumping the two pins (I could always undo it if it didn't work). That did the trick. I was able to read and clear the airbag light. Now to figure out just why it went off but that's an adventure for another day. Special thanks to mslatter, you're a star !!!
Glad you got it worked out. All credit to GTECKO for sharing his work. Did you also get ISTA running? It’s got a better interface, and will give you text explanations of codes, etc. I think I got it from a BMW software site. It installs next to this stuff, and all you need to tell it is to use the default Ediabas setup for communication, and it will piggyback onto the stuff you setup today and (hopefully) just work.

I have a 04 MCS and use INPA with a cable that does't have pins 7 & 8 joined (but do have an adapter for the cable that does bridge them). I've tried both ways with 7&8 bridged and unbridged and for me it works fine both ways.

Can you explain how you've been able to show the R50 chassis ? I am in the same problem, It seem that i'm missing the R50.ENG file
R53 file!
