Rear seats pretty useless to me....1/2" finished ply..34" piano hinge and some 1/8" black speaker covering and I got this......
Hinged right across the frame member so I can access the battery
Took about 5 hour of my time and came out way better than I thought it would..Made a much more useful space...
Thanks for the kind words..
I was a little nervous about trying to get a good fit along the sides...Made a crude scribe out of a short dowel and a sharpie marker taped at a right angle to the dowel...Held my template 90 degrees to the cross member and traced....cut it out...test fit...made adjustments...transfer to plywood and cut it...measure distance between cross member points flipped template over and traced...cut it out and rounded all the edges with sandpaper...cut it along the cross member and installed the piano hinge...
The fabric I found on Amazon...4'x20' roll was like $35...Had some Mist spray adhesive from a motorcycle seat project and used that to adhere the fabric...did one half at a time then flipped it over and wrapped the fabric around the edges..always being careful to smooth it out and keep it taught(I was nervous about this cause I was afraid of wrinkles)...I just need to find a rubber/vinyl cargo mat for the back.....
Thanks again!!
You called it yet another but. the truth is that is most likely the best rear seat delete I have seen done in the R53, its very difficult to do at there is that raised rib for the rear seat mounting hinge.
You did a great job and I think you should be proud.
If I was smart (and I freely admit that I am not) I would have made a template out of 1/8" ply......For the future or for anybody else that wanted one...But alas I did not....This is the only pic I have of the build...
