Took the passenger seat out of the 06 R53 while chasing an annoying rattle (found it and killed it dead!!!).

Test drove car at each stage of reassembly to make sure rattle didn't come back-including with seat removed.

Air bag light is on, even after installing seat and reconnecting all plugs.

No clue if this car has ever had a recall done on PS airbag sensor.

Is this something that can be reset with a Schwaben tuner?

I don’t know about the schwaben tool, but the airbag light isn’t going to go off by itself.

It can rest it, but if there is a constant code it will just come back up. It will also read the type of code.

When you remove the seats with the battery connected it will cause a light.

I can read and clear it for you, it won't clear on it's own

What about if you remove the seats with the battery disconnected? I've read that the airbag light comes on even if you think of possibly taking the seat out one day in the future, or if you look under the seat for with a non-dealer thought in your head.

Joking aside, if the battery is disconnected when the seats are removed, will the light go on? Can the Schwaben reader then reset the light (assuming there's no errors)?

Yes it will come on if you disconnect the seat airbag wire while the battery is connected. The schwaben tool will reset it.

Truthfully, the instructions tell you to disconnect the battery, but they left out "this time we really mean it!"

Schwaben reader reset the airbag light without issue.

I have had the passenger seat out of my '04 R53 a number of times, as long as I didn't turn the key on, I never got an air bag light. I never disconnected the battery

Bryan's right...I forgot that was part of my problem. I was chasing a rattle, so I was pulling stuff out (including the passenger seat), then driving. If you don't have to turn the key on, you will probably be ok.

Yeah thank you - it's totally my fault on this one. I should have disconnected the battery. Thankfully it's just a reset. Still getting to know what the car is like.

Does the 04 have airbags in the seat?

Seems from some of the code readers I've seen, there appears to be a difference between 2002-2004 SRS and those on 2005-2006.

yes, and it also has the seat mat...when I put my dog in the seat, the air bag light comes on...I don't have the seat belt connected

Both my '04 and '06 react the same for me....as long as I have the seat out, and don't turn the key on....I have never got an air bag light in either car after putting the seats back in
