Passenger Air Bag Light off

I have been searching the forums about the Passenger Air Bag Off issue but I haven't seen my problem so I am going to ask all of you.

I just purchased a 2010 Hatchback (R56) noticed when my dog rides in the front seat (I know he shouldn't but he jumps up there) the Passenger Air Bag Off light comes on and off The seat belt is not engaged. My dog weighs 20lbs.

I am assuming this is a safety mechanism but I wanted to double check. I haven't noticed it coming on with a passenger in the seat.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

Yep, that is normal behavior. You will see that with weight on the seat (approximately kid weight) or a child seat.

I'm going to wake up an old topic. The "passenger air bag off" light will come and stay on anytime no one or smaller passenger is sitting in the front passenger seat. This is normal for most cars. The passenger front seat has a front occupant classification system, sometimes known as smart air bag system. It detects the weight of passenger sitting on the front passengerseat. The system then determines in some collisions whether or not it should allow the passenger airbag to deploy and/or the force of deployment.

The passenger airbag off light comes on and off on my Countryman JCW. BUt my issue is caused by something else. My iPad mini. I will explain on another post.

That is NOT the issue discussed in this thread. The weight sensor mat fails, and the light will stay on with or without an adult passenger in the seat. This is not normal and a safety hazard.

Edit: clarification... I was referring to coachvminis post, not the original thread post.

It's a large, flexible printed circuit board inside the seat.

This is what it looks like, after removal from the seat bottom.

The topic is discussed at length in this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t-no-more.html

I'm not familiar at all that the Mini has a problem with the passenger seat sensor. I have a 2014 Countryman JCW with leather seats. Is there anything I need to know?

BMW as well: http://brandilawblog.com/2013/12/26/...g-mat-failure/. MINI from this era (2005-2008) probably use the same sensor as BMW, but there weren't enough complaints to trigger a recall. Hopefully they've resolved it in later years.

Well, this is what is going on with the passenger airbag on my 2014 countryman JCW. My Ipad Mini is the cause, really?
