driving lights mounted on front lic plate?

i want to add driving lights to my mini
i don't run a front plate and was wondering how feasible to would be to buy or make a bracket that uses the lic plate mounting holes to mount a bracket for driving lights?

has anyone done this?
was also thinking this wouldn't require any cutting or drilling on the car like most other bracket do

thanks for any ideas or comments

I have had the same thought as also in New Mexico front plates are none existent. I don't think it would add any better visibility as the existing headlights are ample sufficient, and would it be more of a cosmetic issue? [2017 JCW].
I have no doubt with the existing fabrication abilities that it would be possible to do a clean job with brackets themselves painted the color of the bumper.
One aspect to watch would be for such brackets to be solid as to not vibrate when driving, something that has happened with another vehicle I owned and ended up being a total non sense!!! [and more than annoying...]
Let us know with photos how it goes if you decide to go that route and I will do the same.

That is very true and that always bothers me! It is a shame they have to do that as many States do not require front license plate. However, saying this with a smile, plugs are much cheaper!!!

If you screw/bolt the brackets to the plastic of the front bumper, the lights will probably vibrate so much that they will be of no use. You could, however, bolt the brackets to the reinforcement bar behind the bumper. This would make them more rigid. I think Mini Mania sells brackets for this. They may require that you trim the plastic bumper cover.

I fitted PIAA 540's to my '06 using the existing holes in the hood/bonnet, and the PIAA brackets which are thicker than OEM.

thanks
i have looked into the out motoring brackets that mount to the bumper backer but you have to cut the lower grille for them
leaning towards using the holes where the lic plate goes with possibly a backer to reduce vibration

The plate simply attaches to the plastic bumper cover. Nothing structural there. Will need to design a bracket that attaches to the impact bar or some other structural member.

A Duh! moment realizing after a few days [just bought this one] that my front bumper is NOT drilled... Lucky me! I have the feeling they drill it when it gets here depending on what State.
