Heater Core Bypass
Bypassing my heater core as a permanent solution???
Ok so I live in SoCal. Heater Core sprung a leak and the dealership quoted me over $1,000.00 to fix it. I said kick rocks! Bought the heater core and necessities to replace it. $250.00. Took it to my mechanic friend and he said screw it, just bypass it by connecting the inlet hose to the outlet hose and now my car doesn’t over heat anymore! Sweet! Right? Or am I overlooking something that is going to ultimately bite me in the ***?
All responses welcome

Find a different / better mechanic friend and get that thing swapped! It would be super annoying every time the marine layer / fog rolls through and you can't see until it goes away (if it does, by the afternoon...).
Years back I did one in the Jetta that I had at the time - huge PITA and took ~10 hours over the course of a long weekend, but the dealership wanted $800 as a starting value. Unless it's a proper race car, you're going to be quite inconvenienced by not having it hooked up properly.
