I put down my deposit for my Mini Cooper S today(At Baron Mini in Kansas City Kansas). I was going to order the auto dimming rearview mirror and the infared auto windshield wipers when she told me about people who got it put in. It turns out that most of the people that got it had their front windshield crack because of it and that MINI took them out of the Cold Weather Package because of this. If you look at an older brochure it has it as part of the CWP, but if you go to MINIUSA.com it is completely seperate. Hopefully Mini can get this problem fixed, but I chose not to get it for fear of driving along and having my Windshield crack. Anyone out there have a Mini with this option? If you do please post to let me know how yours worked out, I can always call and add it on(She said delivery in 9-12 MONTHS! )

 

Here is what I got from a MINI Rep. when I was at my dealer, and he just happened to show up...


The windscreen cracking isn't due to the infared sensor... Windscreens began to crack on early production vehicles because the seal was too tight. The reason the Sensor was removed from the CWP was in fact due to production complications, just like the HK system...

My rep told me that the auto wipers weren't worth it, as they were'n accurate enough in their sensing. He even said that most people found them to be more trouble than they are worth.

Not that I wanted them. I'll be happy with intermittant wipers, as my Jeep doesn't have them. THAT'S aggrivating.

 

I want the auto dimming mirror. I was told it was either both(Mirror and Automatic Wipers) or none. Can you get the mirror by itself, from a 3rd party perhaps?

 

Hi Guys,sorry to burst your bubble,but the auto dipping rear veiw mirror,heated windscreen and the rain sensing wipers are not available until September this year. :???:

 

I was talking with my dealer yesterday, who tells me that the rain sensor / dimming mirror is not available at all on their ordering computers now.
He has been told it is on indefinite hold and will not be available in September.

Does anyone have firm information on this?
