What are the lightest FACTORY/aftermarket Mini wheels for the R53?
I'm new to this whole world of minis... bought a nice used 2005 R53 and I'm just getting into it.
I want to put on a light set of wheels on my ride in the 16" wheel diameter ... MUST be 48mm offset, at 6.5"-7.0" wide with the factory hub center the same as OEM or larger so I can have some hub-centric adapters made.
OEM is best... but aftermarket is acceptable.
Not looking to break the bank... and will set my budget at no more than $800 al-in.
I've searched this forum with both the internal and google search engines... and although there is a lot of info here... it is not exactly what I'm looking for and could not find relevant info to this exact question.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thx.

I think you are limiting yourself sticking firm on a +48 offset.
Here are two 16x7 +43 options in a sub 17lb weight:

For a factory wheel the X-lite or Monza or V-spoke wheels are the lightest 16" option. Many after markets that are lighter but if you cannot budge on the +48 offset you will find very few. The lightest factory wheel is the 7-hole or Holies but they are 15x5.5.
here is a seemingly near comprehensive list of factory wheels with a good number of the options with their weight...

Looks like the R114JCW cross-spoke16.5lb (7.5kg)Titan Grey
Is a nice choice!! How hard are they to find? (tried ebay, CL, FB-mktplace)

I started by scratching my head... I understand you prefer an offset of 48mm for a 6.5" to 7" wide wheel, and since you didn't indicate it being a negative number I assume then you are looking for a positive offset...
For readers that are a little confused here is a link to an write up on Wheels ...
https://www.discounttiredirect.com/l...fset-backspace
There are few really nice lightweight milled wheels out there and if money is not an issue you can have customs made.
Another option is converting over to the BMW 5 lug hubs and that could possibly open more options.
Best of luck.

Volk makes a 16x7 4x100 48ET TE37 that is
extremely light (under 12#) and strong.
It’s expensive, but on sale at the best price
I’ve seen in years here:

Volk also makes a very nice looking
forged CE28N in 16x7 4x100 +48, very
slightly lighter than the TE37, but it’s
usually a little harder to find, and even
more expensive.

Just watch those other places as they dont have the correct fitment for MINI most of the time they confuse the CB and offsets with the years and models as the fitment data calls out years and sometimes not chassis. We have a bunch of wheels and test fit them in-house.

ECS...Thank you for the reply (sincerely).
I've purchased some things from your shop already.
On the OEM wheels... most, but not all, wheels do not have weights on them.
EG R112 wheels, R90
Great deal on the 16" cross spoke... but they are bit heavy at 20+ lbs.
What is the lightest OEM 16x7/7.5 and/or 17x7/7.5 4x100, 48mm offset wheels you sell?
What are the lightest aftermarket NON-'tuner' (only one bolt pattern) 16x7/7.5, 4x100, 56.1mm CB, 45-48mm offset wheels you sell that are less than $1800 for set of 4?

Yep, I am here for my MINI people. Thanks for the orders
Yep, they dont have the wheel weight on them unless they are a factory wheel and tire package which we get direct from MINI. AKA some of those clearance and blowout wheels.
Team dynamics but they have a longer eta. :https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2005-...Team_Dynamics/
13lbs on the 15" wheels
BBS is light but more money: ( are on sale right now ) https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2005-...ys/BBS_Wheels/
Oem wheels: R87 Winter wheels: ~16.5 pounds if i remember, but they are 5.5 widths. . ET 48 No oem 16 x7 or wider. To get 7 wide you have to go to 17"+

Check here for many MINI OEM wheel weights
http://minicooper.wikia.com/wiki/OEM_Wheels_and_Tires
A bit of searching on Google for ones not covered here
may yield more results for specific wheels that are of
interest to you.

ECS... Thanks for feilding my inquiry.
The BBS look great, and are a decent price.... tempting.
A couple of questions... on these two BBS wheels, 16" Style RG 527 SK Wheel & 17" Style RG 712H DSK Wheel
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-bbs-part...our/rg527skkt/
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-bbs-part...r/rg712hdskkt/
1) Will both or either of these wheels fit with factory JCW brakes.... AND will they fit with the Wilwood BBK's (12.19 and 12.88 kits)
You say to "watch for clearance" on the 16" ... but since you are the specialist.... and these are some serious money (for me)...
I would need a more definitive answer on this for Wilwood or R56-JCW brake fitment if I go with these pricey (for me) wheels for fitment of the BBK this spring... well after the wheels have been run.
These both have a large deviation from the factory 48mm offset... at 35mm and 38mm.
2) How do you mitigate that for fitment on the 2005 MCS for stock position in the wheel-arch and clearance??
3) Can the Mini center caps be fitted onto these wheels?(yea, I know they are BBS, but I'm more of a stealth guy)
Are the BBS center caps included on both selections??
Thanks in advance.
I'm really much more of a fan of the 195/55R16's in terms of ride quality on these cars... and the 10mm tread width and 1/2" more sidewall height really don't bother me in terms of handling as they really don't limit serious spirited street driving, with a zero possible track-time future on the car. I've had the pleasure of driving the same car (an '02 MCS) with the same RE960's in the two sizes.... and, in spirited driving... I really did not notice much difference in grip on the dry...in wet... the back-end stayed more 'glued' with the 195's.... and the 16/195 combo rode significantly better.... for those who are scratching their head over my 16" choice.
Going with the 16's and the 195's.... the overall rotating mass is still less for the 16" combo vs. the 17" combo
.

You are my kind of detailed person.
1) The 15" is close I know there was one guy who ran them back in the day but I don't know if he shaved the caliper a bit (thats why to check fitment and clearance) or what to make them fit. On a 16" they will fit unless you have some huge BBK,. I will dig up some old threads on the 15", I have had a MINI since 2004 and been on NAM personally since 2004, so I now there is stuff on here I just have to remember it.
The willwood some people tucked them on 15" on the 11.75 kits but the bigger ones you will need 16" and slight spacers. Good thread here to use as a example. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ed-list-4.html JCW gen 1 brakes are the same fitment as the Gen 2 Cooper S R56 brakes,
2) You will poke out a bit more but i run 17" R112 and it takes ~20mm to get flush. So with the offset if I am right you would poke out 13mm with a 35offset
3) BBS center caps are 56mm and the MINI ones are 50mm. So I dont think that will work unless you get just the MINI caps stickers and mod them to fit or just stick them over top. https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2005-.../Center_Caps/2 BSS caps included.
4) Most people go 15" for track and daily as its the lightest wheel, but if you have BBK or JCW brakes most of the time you have to play 16" to be safe. also, watch those wheel weights as if you dont get the low profile ones the BBKs can knock them off. I understand the 16" because its the bigger clearance but has the ride quilty. So you know your MINIs. When you go to 17" you can really feel the jump.

ECS has an amazing deal on the Chromadora R90-16" at $500/4.... and I also found a set of four MINI-spec'd BBS 320's, new in boxes for $450
I can get the Bridgestone POTENZA RE960 AS P.P.'S in 195/55/16 for about $110/per tire with free mount/bal through my commercial account.
Both are 16" 4x100-only, 7" wide with 56.1 CB.
The R90's are 48mm Offset..... the BBS are 42mm offset.
BBS ==> 18.2 lbs
Cromadora ==> 21 lbs.
Thoughts?
Quality Differences?
Brake clearance differences in the two rims for future BBK install??
Thoughts on running the 42mm offset on the 7" wheels with the 195/55/16's
...compared to the stock wheels that are on there now... R85 'S-Spoke" 17x7.5's at 48mm... OR... the R90-16's at 48mm..
