Picked up my 2005 MCS/JCW on Monday

BRG/W Premium, Sport, Cold, CLE,CLI, Anthracite, Chrono, HK.

This is a replacement for an Audi S4, and boy is it fun! I can't wait to get some milage on the car so I can open it up. I have been amazed by the number of comments I get everytime I am gettting out of the car. Everyone seems to love these cars (and I can't wipe the smile off my face!)

Interesting Change

I never saw anyone go from an S4 to a MCSJCW. Which is more fun?

Haven't been able to really get on the JCW yet (only 100 miles). From a pure power standpoint, my S4 had 320 HP and 380 TQ which once you got into it was a ball... But the car was >4000 lbs. The quattro also gave you a pretty comfortable feeling.

The mini, however, just feels more like a drivers car. The weight difference is immediately noticeable, and you just feel like you can throw it around. I really think in the long run I will enjoy driving the mini more. I think there is a lot more to learn as far as how to get on the gas, etc (I think the tires will break loose pretty easily with the JCW) which was almost impossible in the S4.

Both great cars, and I will miss my S4 (it was wrecked), but I am very happy to be driving the mini!

Awesome! I too looked at the S4 as I really like it....but...it just doesn't have the fun factor that the MINI does - as you are quickly finding out....enjoy!!!

Chow!

My car is an MTM-chipped biturbo S4 with some other minor mods (the MCS is officially my wife's) We intend to "JCW" the MINI once it's run in and the snow disappears.

I know for outright grunt (in a straight line at least ) the JCW won't stand a chance....even if it was LSD-equipped, which ours isn't. My S4, like Ebock's, is running around 320bhpand 360 lb/ft (official S4 curb weight is more like 3560 lbs versus the MCS's 2650 lbs or so). But we all know that we don't buy MINIs for straight-line speed and drag-racing; that's not their forte.

I would really like to buy my own MCS, but that would probably mean selling the S4, which I really don't want to do (same reason I pulled out of buying an M3 and an STi). The S4 has been exemplary in its performance & reliability over the past 4 years (chipped since day 1). I've been driving for 27 years and the S4 is only the second car I've held on to for longer than 18 months (the other was a Prodrive-modified Subaru Impreza Turbo; before they became "famous" ).

From my limited experience with my wife's MCS (when I can steal the keys) I know this one is a real keeper too. Touch wood, no problems so far and (almost) rattle free.

I couldn't agree more. The fit and finish of my S4 (mine was APR BTW) was the finest of any car I have owned. I also looked at M3's but couldn't justify the $ versus the S4. Wasn't looking to replace it (69,000 trouble free miles, also chipped from day 1). I actually expect the Mini to be a little more finicky, but we will see. I do miss the interior of my S4... Nogaro Blue with the Alcantra sport seats......

ebock,

I just picked up my '05 JCW from Classic Mini and drove it 750 miles back to Atlanta. The kit is great. I really like the feel of it, but like you have not had a chance to take it past 4000 rpm until I break it in. Next weekend I should hit the 1250 mile mark.
