R50/53 MINIs .... Ugly?
MINIs .... Ugly?
I think it is one of the best looking cars on the road. USA Today thinks otherwise:

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...-16-ugly_x.htm
they didn't say it's ugly!
they said that cars are trending towards "extreme designs" and they give some examples of "extreme designs"...but what they say about the mini:
"Verdict: Smash. Its British retro rally car look is almost unanimously beloved."
so they didn't say it's ugly....they did think the Aztek, Scion and Avalanche are ugly (and i agree)

I just don't think it should even be in a post labled "Ugly cars bringing in welcome dollars" - it isn't even in the same class as those other arguably ugly vehicles.

I'm not quite sure what McPaper is trying to say here. It seems to be an article about polarizing designs, of which I suppose the xB would be a good example, but then it talks about the Aztek, which no one likes, and the MINI, which the author says "...is almost unanimously beloved", so they're not remotely examples of what the author starts out describing. I think someone just needed to fill some space in between the colored pie charts and such.

If you take a look at their earlier review of the MINI, it is extremely positive. It pretty much comes out and says that everyone love a MINI!

It looks to me like the guy wrote an article about "extreme" designs (or quirky designs or designs with personality) and some editor at USA Today read the first couple of paragraphs and stuck the "Ugly" title on the piece.
USA Today Article Sucks So Bad
This is a good example of misdected journalism and bad headline writing. Editor alert! Editor alert!
As far as the MINI goes, I've never read any negative observations about its styling. Cute? Yes. Girly? Yes. Retro? Yes. Bold? Yes. Gay? Perhaps.
But ugly? This perception happens solely in the minds of Anglophobes, USA Today editors, and old Crown Vic owners

I had some drunk dude in a lipstick red civic pull up to me in San Fransisco and said "That is the gayest car I have ever seen." Looked over at him, said "Wow, right up your alley then. Afterall, you are the one in a lipstick red civic."
I believe it was Automobile Magazine that said, and I quote "At long last, a car openly intended for gay people"... how about that. Not that im gay, nor is there anything wrong with it, but come on, who lets that slide? Thats obviously gonna offend people. Of course there were tousands of letters responding against the mag. But this was before i even thought i was gonna get a car, like back in 02 or something.

MINI's own marketing spokesman had said to an Automobile Mag staffer that the MINI appeals to all people: black or white, male or female, straight or gay. They merely took the marketer's own assertions and highlighted them.
I wish I had saved the issue; it was actually a good write-up.

. Should have told him atleast my car isnt powered by rice
.
Im just fed up with all this "street racing" bull crap. Every teenage guy (granted im a teenager) feels they have to put 900hp through the wheels of their FWD civic. Just stupid and pretty funny. Should ask these guys if they want to "street race" on the back roads, they would understeer like hell right into the tress coming out of a corner. All they know how to do is dump a clutch a press a nos button.
"All they no how to do is dump a clutch a press a nos button."
That is about all they know how to do. I agree with the back road racing, A Mini would deffenately take any of em on a twisty back road. You would get joy out of spanking some rice and the joy of driving through tight turn's at high rate's of speed.
