Whirring noise when ignition on/engine at idle
Hey folks.
This is my first post, and I am still pretty new to the MINI Game.
I have bought a 2005 R53 (Park Lane) a few weeks ago, as a replacement for my Miata.
It has a few small/unimportant issues, and was a deal just too good to pass.
Anyways:
I have this weird issue that the car is whirring when i put the key in the ignition and to the on-position, but only on cold starts.
At first i thought it was just the supercharger, but that can't be the case when the engine isn't running.
I added a Link to a YT video I made, where you can hear the "whirr"
This is with the engine idling.
I thought about many possible sources, maybe fuel pump, maybe PSP (too deep tho) or pulleys, etc.
Is this completely normal and am I being overly cautious?
The Miata made me overthink every noise a car can emitt, maybe I'm just being paranoid.
Thanks in advance, and greetings from Germany.
Chris

I'm sorry, but the video just sounds like white noise to me. Maybe next time you're doing a cold start you can make a video of the sound when you turn the key before starting the engine.
If the noise changes when you turn the steering wheel, my guess is you're hearing the normal whine of the electric power steering.

Steering pump whine sound a lot more high pitched, could spot that as well.
Thanks for your reply
