Brand new head, horrendous valvetrain noise

So I got a new Sneed Speed Street head on my car, install went fine with no real speed bumps. I just started it for the first time and the valve noise is horrendous. Im talking 12valve Cummins on a cold day with no oil bad. Anybody have any insights into why this might be? I put a couple ounces of oil in the top of each piston like i always do on engine rebuilds to lubricate the top end on startup so it shouldn't be an oil starvation issue. I only let it run for about 5 minutes before I shut it down because I'm worried, car runs perfectly and isn't throwing any codes, just sounds like a damn diesel. Kinda wish I would've checked the valve lash before putting it all together but I don't feel like I should have to do that with a part I bought from a reputable speedshop. Anyways, any insight anyone might have would be great, I'm getting to the point where I'm about ready to cut my losses and sell the damn thing.

Thanks, Stoney

edit: my intention here isn’t to drag Sneed Speeds name through the dirt, just wanted the full facts of my situation known to anyone trying to help me

What year and model is your Mini? Is this a stock head for a ported big valve head?

2005 Cooper S, it’s an OEM spec head, the description says it “receives a high flow valve job and valve facing as well as setting the spring pressures for best performance”

Have you put the rocker shafts the right way up?

Will do exactly that.

I took pictures and oriented everything exactly as it was sent to me, I’m taking my valve cover off after work today to recheck everything though

I say it because one tech that first installed my Kent cam did this on the exhaust side, he rechecked it three times and said nothing was wrong, others insisted it was the chain but were wrong, I borrowed some new rockers from one of new new heads and fault fixed, I didn't notice on removal as I was just swapping bits and had concluded it was the rockers, so fitted them and the noise went. Ok I thought, just the rockers. Roll on several months I fitted a modified head, on removal of the current one I repatriated the borrowed rockers, and it was then I say the exhaust shaft upside down! Worth a check, it cost 26hp on the rollers ;O)

Ok I’ll check it out thanks for the input, you know if there’s any easy way to see if they’re upside down just with the valve cover off or wil i have to pull the rocker shafts as well?

The bolt head should be on a 'flat' not the curved part of the shaft, you can see with the cover off.

Just curious if this is the noise you were hearing. Just had my head replaced and now it sounds different. It sounds like what you are describing. Having the mechanic take a look tomorrow.

Bump? Can anyone confirm the noise? I’d hate to tear this thing apart for nothing

does sound similar, you only need to pull the cover which is easy enough.
