Air Filter fell apart...need a new one ASAP! Help!!

I have some off ball Pipercross air filter/intake setup up on my 03' R53 Mini. It was on there several years ago when I bought the car. I was washing the foam air filter today (like I always do every 15,000 miles), and the thing pretty much just fell apart...it's probably close to 15 year old.

It's kind of an oddball filter....instead having a female end and clamping onto the intake tube (like most air filters), this air filter actually has a male extension (around 1-7/16" diameter) that sticks out of it, and it goes into the factory rubber intake tube...and the tube clamps onto the metal tube/extension coming out of the air filter.

Long story short, I need to try to find a replacement for it, and I'm not having much luck at all. Anyone have any ideas?? Any help would be great!! Thanks!!

Here is what my Pipercross setup looks like.

I can be wrong. Most if not all these foam filter falls apart after a number of years. Think what happen when the SC or engine ingest the foam. You will not find foam air filter use in aviation. They use cotton gauze filters as there is no pulling over the side of the road to see why the engine quit. I suggest try to retrofit a K&N cone filter by hook or by crook.

Yep..I agree. I found a K&N that I think I can make work.

The one I used. Should be easily adaptable to your inlet tube.

+1 on this, I use it as well and it's very sturdy. It's a direct cross for the JCW filter so should fit well.

Does it have the metal tube coming out of the end like my current filter, or will I have to make some sort of adapter so that I can clamp the stock intake tube to it? Anyone have a picture of the back end of that air filter?

aFe has the cotton material filters that can be washed and reused, plus last over time. I have a friend that uses one since they started making them and is still using it on his diesel truck. I have used one of theres for a decade and have been very happy with it on my truck. Have one for my Mini and will get it the next time I change out the filter. Might look there for a replacement filter from them.

What did you use to clean it with?
I have a 15 yr old Alta/UNI filter and it is like new. As long as you use the right product to clean and oil it, it should last a long time.

It looks something like this:

Here's the technical specs. It has a 3.5" ID port opening. The version for the JCW airbox is EaAU3570.
