HELP -- my test drive horrors

yesterday i finally drove a MINI and i really felt like i was too tall for the car...and i am only 5'8" !!!!!

the sales guy i had was really poopie so i really didnt get a good feel for the car...but i have been sad all day because i always read on here all you guys (some of you have to be over 5"8") talk about how great the MINI is, and i just couldnt get comfy in it....i felt like a giant and that the steering wheel was about 6 miles infront of me....

does anyone have any suggestions on anything to make my next test drive (at a different dealership) better??

thanks

5'11" and 220lbs and I'm very comfortable in mine. Really play with the settings and find the right position for you. It could be that your really used to what your currently driving. I'm guessing a truck? Let us know what happens.

I'm 5'9" and I feel really comfortable in mine, once I adjusted the seat height, seat back angle, and steering wheel.

When I always get in a car, I always adjust the seat so the steering wheel is at the wrist level when my arms are all the way extended, my legs are bent to a degree, but not crammed, and my head is four fingers from the roof of the car. My back should also be up pretty straight, (not like a board) but at the same time not ghetto. I was taught this at the BMW performance driving school in spartanburg, and although it may take a few minutes for you to get the best seating position, (and annoying when someone messes it up) it always works out for the better, both safety wise, and performance. The same rule applies to the Mini, and I am about 6'2. I fit perfect, and feel fine. Hope this helps.

Your sales person obviously didn't properly show you how to adjust the seat...no other explanation. Very tall people fit easily into the MINI and you are not tall (however taller than me.) Go back and have a knowledgable person show you how to adjust up and down and fore and aft. You will fit perfectly and you can certainly get comfortable to become one with the car.

5'11" 225 Lb. Long of torso, short of leg. I'm an ergonomicist's (thataword?) nightmare. But I fit in my MCS. (Wife says I look like one of those cartoon dawgs in Dr. Seuss's Go Dog Go when I drive my MGA though)

Go back to the showroom and start cranking that seat around. You'll find a comfortable spot I'm sure.

I haven't gotten mine yet (MCSC), but when I test drove I fit in just fine. I'm 6', 210. My partner is 6'2", 215 and fit in just fine too.

I know............go back to the dealer (not that particular MA, though) and tell then you're interested EXCEPT that you were unable to find a suitable driving position and if they could specifically demonstrate the seat/steering wheel adjustments for you. Hopefully that'll at least solve that part which would be good as I have no doubt you'll fit in a MINI with NO problem.

Just be aware (as previously mentioned) that lots of us are more accustomed to an incorrect driving position. Its good to learn about that, too.

what did you eat before test drive?

It use to be that my clothes would feel tight if I would eat too much.
Might be the same with you and the Mini.
I suggest a low carb diet before your next test drive
Since I have slimmed down I feel better and Mona seems to perform better too.

thanks everyone for the suggestions -- i will demand that the seat's functions be shown to me BEFORE we leave the dealer instead of my fiddling with it WHILE i was doing the test drive....

and the MA i had was just silly -- every word out of his mouth was "great" and when i asked him if he had a MINI, he said (exact quote)
"yeah, i got a great lease incentive when i started working here so i just had to get one, oh and i like it too"

so cross your fingers and ill keep you all updated....

and MINIBILL -- i didnt have anything to eat before hand

I am 5-11 and 220 with room to spare. I let a friend at work drive and he is 6-4 nearly 300. He fit as well. (all around big guy)

I'll bet the person before you was short. Here are a few quick tips. In front of the seat, under you left leg is the height adjustment. The other is the seat angle adjustment is on the inside of the seat, or the right side of the drivers seat.

Just go to the dealer and sit in one on the showroom fllor. The seats all adjust the same, MC and MCS. Good luck.

If 6'9" Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas Mavs) can be a MINI enthusiast, there's no reason you can't be, too!!

I've seen plenty of MINI owners who are well over 6' tall and others who are rather portly, as well, and they are ALL comfortable in their MINIs. I suggest that you take another test drive and crank the seat ALL THE WAY DOWN, and be sure to adjust the seatback, also. The MINI has an incredible number of seating positions. Don't despair! You'll find your sweet spot!

Hey PEEP,

I'm 5'11" and just over 200lbs. My other vehicle is a F-150 Supercrew. There's nothing more fun than driving the truck for a while and getting in the MINI for a spin. Good luck and fiddle with that seat until it's just right. Enjoy!

Just use the handle on the side to lower the seat. It will go lower at the same time it seems to move back

My mom's 4' 10" and when ever I get into her Mini to move it, I know just how you feel I'm 6' even so I need to adjust her seats before even thinking of getting in...

I totally agree with what everyone is saying.

Just remember... the seat goes back and forth AND up and down... and the seat back moves just like other cars.

I'm 5'7"... almost the exact height you are and I fit fabulously. I'm rarely more comfortable anywhere than I am in my MINI:smile:

I'm 6' 6" and 250# and am comfortable driving my MINI all day. The seat is very adjustable, but it sounds as though you need a new MA.

6'3" 150# with room for adult passengers behind me if needed. But the vinyl sport seat has got to be the most uncomfortable I've ever sat in. Thought it would "break in", but after 56k+.... no
