R53 Gas Mileage
I'm sure there are a few threads on gas mileage on the R53. I was reading some earlier posts on claims of 46MPG on a R53, that to me seems like a very TALL Fish story. The earlier posts were from 2006. As these cars get older, does the MPG drop that much, there are people stating they get 32-36 mpg on average. I get 25.7mpg on mixed driving. I don't even think I've hit 26MPG doing a 200 mile highway drive. I take good care of Scarlet, I'm wondering if anyone is currently getting over 30+ MPG on their R53????

Lots of threads (some recent addressing this).
Your best source of information would be fuelly.com. 30+ MPG is possible on an R53. I'm trying to figure out how to get back there myself.

I have an 06 MCS JCW. I can get 30.5 with all freeway driving, if I am just driving and having no fun, but typically the same driving with fun around 28.5.
Now in the twisties, I tend to burn fuel at a higher rate, at about 26 to 27 mpg. We have no real stop and go traffic here either.
I had an 05 MCS that regularly got 29.5 mpg and around 27.5 to 28.5 in Mixed driving. (again no real traffic.
I owned a 06 base rally set up, which was getting 44 mpgs consitantly. It had a 5 speed manual, it was quick and handled as good as any Mini I have owned, which is many, as I sell them used.
It is vitally important to use a premium high octane fuel to accomplish this. Not jippo high octane gas!

I've noticed a distinct difference between what the car tells me I'm getting vs what the gas bill/odometer tells me I'm getting. According to the car I average 30mpg....in reality I hover around 24-26 depending how I drive. Could explain some discrepancies. There have been plenty of times when I shoot a 6 hour freeway drive and the car tells me I'm getting in the 40s, I dont believe it for a second.

Both cars run slightly taller tires, 215 vs. 205. Not sure where Mini got its government MPG numbers (perhaps non-ethanol fuel?), but they are way optimistic!
It's a shame the cars are just so fun to drive!

I should have added that I am also running 215sI am totally ok with the mileage! These cars are just so fun to drive! They make this old fart, young again!
In the future, I would like to get hold of an 06 GP (of course with chrono package!) I need to save up for this at some point!

So I have a 2009 Mini Base R56 which I used for commuting If I put 93 no ethanol fuel in it I get 44MPG. 87 I get around 38.5-40. I recently picked up a 2002 S re-did head gasket and ensured I thoroughly cleaned everything, installed 17% pulley , plugs and belt and according to computer 28 MPG going average 75-80 MPH calculated by hand came out 27.6. 2002 Has 105,000 2009 has around 80,000 miles

I blame the dismal MPG on the recently installed funMaximizer joystick. Also gone now the crappy winter fuel, cruising thru the 25 MPH residential streets in the second gear just sound so good.
I always make sure I select the optimum gear and never fail to blip the throttle h&t before a corner
Most important, Mini agrees.

Seeing similar numbers over the last 2 years we've had the car.
Started out at around 22mpg average then after we'd gone through the car with a lot of maintenance (02 sensors, cleaning MAP sensors, fresh oil, filters, gear lube, new tires, etc)
Now, averaging around 25-26 highway on rolling terrain. I suspect a longer highway jaunt will be closer to 28-29, but since this is a commuter, road trips aren't really common.
