Thinking of selling the MINI

It's my son's 2004 S and has 190k on the odo.

He needs to have a more comfortable car since he will be commuting to school for a couple of years.

It has a new WMW exhaust, shocks, water pump, shock tower stiffeners, and is in , what I consider to be, GREAT shape.

6 speed manual.

I love the car but, I don't need a 6th vehicle in the driveway......

I'm just wondering what it might be worth.

Go on your local Craigslist and see what is for sale in your area.

Factor in condition and mileage and go from there.

If I had to guess, I'd say around 3-3.5k.

Also, wow that's great to see that many miles. Curious what kind of work did you have to do to get it to run that long?

Depends on the locale. Around here only dealers are asking $3-3.5K on this kind of mileage and that is with no one biting. Private party is more like $2-2.5K max.
So a mini is not comfortable for a college student? Man, times have changed.

If a Mini is well cared for the engine will last over 200,000. With your car at 190k, I might be more concerned about reliability than comfort. With 190,000 miles those pistons have gone up and down something like 815,000,000 times. Being old according to my grand daughter, I can appreciate those pistons (and rings, and rod bearings, and cam etc.)

I could not think of a better college driver! Keeps the drunken parties to a different car!
I had a two seater corvette (61 factory fuel injected), when I was going, but I guess times have changed!
I would have loved a fast car that also gets reasonable mileage, regardless of miles on it! I have seen many go over 300K miles here in the northwest!
Plus the Mini has a 9.4 safety rating out of 10. What is not to like about that?

Keep him in the R53! It's a known quantity and you and he know the car well.

Are the roads really rough in your area? Is your son traveling far for school? Maybe some new tires to soften the ride?

My son is commuting about 40 miles round trip for college and he's quite comfortable in the Mini. It's been a reliable car even at 223+K miles.

Thanks for ALL the replies! Son came home last night and told me he's keeping the MINI! He's looking for another place close to college.

We bought the car at 163K with a LOT of service records. It has been taken care of. The only things we have done to it are, head gasket and had the valves and head re-worked, water pump, exhaust system, clutch slave cylinder (I think that's what it's called).

Yea, I should have mentioned that if he commuted, he would have to go through some fairly seedy areas so, reliability was/is a major concern.
