Turbo V8 RWD R53

I thought everyone would get a kick out of this. It looks like a monster.

This his been one of my "way more money than sense" bucket list dream builds but I didn't even know if it was possible. Turns out it is!

The owner of a local shop has a R56 that he has modded big time. His license plate is FrankenMini.

After seeing the front of the above car, that car is FrankenMini Senior

If you look other pics Bav you can see the hood on. Looks like he pretty much just cut a hole where the turbo sticks out.

Yup, if you want the Wolf in Sheep's Clothing effect with a full motor swap like this, you do it with a twin turbo V-6....

I would loose the turbo, though something tells me he still wont properly fit a hood.

Best of luck selling it in that shape.

Drag cars don't need hoods, slap some drag tires on and hurt some feelings.

I can't imagine riding in this. I once rode in a '96 B16 Civic making 350+ FWHP on pump gas and that was the scariest (non crash) ride of my life. We started in the inside lane of a freeway sweeper curve and ended up 3 lanes over in the outside b/c his street tires couldn't hold traction under WOT.

Well no one is riding in that thing other than the driver considering the passenger seat is a radiator now. But in all seriousness I dont think the guy built it for the road. Either slap some slicks on and have fun at the strip or maybe track or even give a go at drifting it. It would definitely be the most unique drift car I've ever seen out there.

You and your "logic"....

As to drifting I've witnessed a Scion econo box that Team Scion had converted to RWD. I don't recall what engine they had shoehorned in there (maybe 2JZ), but it made some serious smoke!

I love unique cars like that. I've seen a 97 civic hatch converted to RWD for drifting and the guy could hold drifts around the track no problem. I think a mini like this would be just as enjoyable and have you smiling the entire time.

Anyone know of a mid-engine rear wheel drive Mini? Seems like if you pushed the dashboard and pedal box forward, there would be room for a motor behind you... You would be uncomfortably close to the windscreen though... but still. Seems do-able - yes, you would need to cage the whole car because you cut a HUGE hole in the floor for the motor and completely redo the rear suspension. But still... seems like it could be done. Having the gas tank in front of you shouldn't be an issue, VW and Porsche have done this for years with epic success.

Well there's the twini, of course that's more rear engine and it's awd.

Jay Leno did it with a Ford Festiva called Shogun...Surely it can be done in a Mini.

A dream build yet selling it before driving it or finishing it. Might be more to finishing this project than meets the eye... but anything can be done if you have the money..

Yea, like went over a budget or too much work, dont know why you would stop a project if you went that far.

As I tell my kids - "just because you can, doesn't mean you should."
