Wide Angle Rearview Mirror

Hi Gang,
I have been driving my WP 04 MCS back and forth to work everyday for 3 months now. I love my car, but I am in agreessive rush hour, congested, New York City/Long Island Expressway traffic.

Many times when attempting to switch lanes, I check both mirrors and just as I am about to make the switch I do the cursory glance over the shoulder, just to find someone in my blind spot. Very nerve shattering considering all the driving conditions. Even the cursory glance can be dangerous if the guy in front slams on the brake while I am looking away. In my old Jeep, I used to have one of this cancave mirror that eliminated all blind spots. I bought one from JC Whitney, but sadly the clamp will not fit around the curvy, auto-sensing rear view mirror of the MINI.

Does anyone have a good solution for this? And where to get it...? I don't want to start glueing, velcroing, or double sticking if I can avoid it.

I am just dreading getting into a collision in my beloved car.

Thanks,
Nando

Brookstone used to sell rear view mirrors that were of a very high quality; they had a spring-loaded pair of grab arms that clamped onto the top and bottom edges of your existing mirror, so they were easily removable. Unfortunately, they no longer carry this product in their stores or on the web.

However, I did notice that another company appears to be selling the exact same product, at least from the pictures. The price is similar, and it comes in the same two sizes that Brookstone used to carry. It *might* be the same product, but I can't be sure.

If it is, I like it. I currently have it on my car (non-MINI, still waiting for it to arrive!) and the optical quality is quite good.

I had this same issue, but not just in the MINI. I found I was one of
those drivers that was "in love with their rear fenders." I had the exterior
mirrors adjusted so that they replaced, rather than augmented, the
interior rearview mirror. In other words, I could see my rear fenders
in them. So, I adjusted both of them out so that they complemented
the interior mirror and now when I glance from driver's door mirror to
interior mirror to passenger's door mirror, it is like having a convex
mirror and I no longer have blindspots.

Additionally, when driving at night I was constantly being blinded by
the lights of cars behind me. After changing the way I set my mirrrors
I don't have that problem anymore either.

Give it a try.

I used to have one of these Wink mirrors in my Turbo CRX. Didn't have to turn heads anymore as you can see nearly 180 degrees

If you set your mirrors properly, you can just about eliminate all the blind spots. Use this guide...

http://www.cartalk.com/content/featu...ors/index.html

I set mine this way and now I can't drive other peoples cars with out changing them to this way.

Edit: fixed link

I use this method too, and it works! Like Rusty, I too cannot drive another car unless I adjust the mirrors this way.

I have been using the mirror adjustment method mentioned by cartalk for the past decade. It works. Try it!

I have a Broadway (wide and flat) clip on rear view mirror over the stock mirror and that works pretty well for me. You can see a wider view out the back. Rough cost about $15.

Auto sports stores may carry it.See
http://store.racinglab.com/mirror.html

They can come in blue, black plastic with a smoke tint or clear.
Get the flat one not convex.
