Hey, so might be a little creepy and assuming, but a Mello from Mass sounds like you would be Portuguese. I'm a Mello (maiden name) from central NH that moved to the middle of Iowa. My dad is originally from Boston area. Love seeing other Mellos around!

 

Portuguese thru and thru , moms side from Portugal dads side from the azores. Around here we had 2 pages in the phone book between Mello Melo DeMello lol you never know could be cousins ! Always wanted to name my daughter Marsha or Cara lol

 

I'm half Portuguese with my Dad. My grandfather is from Sao Miguel, and he was de Mello, but dropped it when he got here. I wouldn't be surprised if we were cousins.
People always suggested my mom name daughters Cara or Marsha!

 

Small world indeed , around here we all figured Mello was a surname of DeMello and back in the day they shortened everyone's names . It was harder to come to America then my mothers mother only came because her sister died before leaving and my fathers grandfather and grandmother had to have sponsers and careers just to come .
