R50/53 Lower Motor Mount Suggestions
Lower Motor Mount Suggestions
Torque Solutions - From ECS
I think it's time to get rid of some of the play on the engine. Has anyone tried the Torque listed above? Car has 120k on the clock, so I'd like to think I got the best out of my original.
Any suggestions?

With the poly mount I suspect that you will get vibration into the interior of the car especially at the wheel----unless you are looking for max performance I personally would stick to stock which is what I did last month when I changed all the motor mounts. Check out Lemforder at Pelican---that is where I got my mounts. Lemforder is a OEM for BMW.
If you are a do it yourselfer here's a cheap alternative. Did all mine (I wrote the how to) and they are still holding up perfect! I really didn't notice any increase in vibration, and the car feels much more responsive.
Woops forgot the link!!

Unfortunately I don't have a week of downtime right now. Beginning of the year and business starts to ramp up...
So solid > poly for the use of DD, weekend runs through the twisties, and occasional AutoX?
We find those and the BSH mount to be too hard for most as the small end is solid.
So I would suggest just going with a stock mount and adding the powerflex inserts.

Or we now offer stock lower brackets rebuilt with new powerflex complete bushing replacements installed. And if you think it is too hard the center black insert is removable to soften it up.

I was gonna go with the inserts, which are much easier and faster to do, but I'm a tightwad sometimes. There has to be good reason to spend the extra money for me. And I just didn't see any pros for the inserts that outweighed the con of these not be so pretty but doing the same thing for a lot less.
I bought all new oem mounts and a tube of the stuff for less than all the inserts would have cost me.
Woah, Veritas, I didn't realize you were the one who thought of the DIY poly mounts!
My last R53, Sunflower, was rocking a polyurethane-caulking-filled upper mount, thanks to you!!! I added a small modification of smoothing the urethane before drying, and then plastidipping the brown urethane black, and peeling the metal body of the mount once it dried for a "OEM" black-mount, metal-casing look. Thanks!!!
It may rattle your dash out, but it drives sooooooo much better than factory!!! The way I see it, most performance mods add some vibration and additional forces to the mounts, so you might as well mount the most important bits of the car into the car as firmly as possible. Plus, with the TSW passenger mount, the BSH lower mount, and the Powerflex gearbox mount that Way sells, you can basically guarantee that you never have to worry about damaging something while shifting ever again.
