A MINI Concept Car

Has anybody seen the "An Interesting MINI Concept"
amazingly ______ (what I won't say) pictures that Gabe has posted today on MotoringFile showing a new MINI concept car? Apparently a student did it and won an award... for ugliest MINI ever?

Opinions?

I think it's MINI's evil twin... rabid bulldog... take your pick!

Since I first saw it yesterday I'm really warming up to the shunken 2-door FX45 look. I certainly would like a little more agressive direction for the next MINI.

I don't like the headlights and from the side it looks like a Toyota Matrix IMO.

Yep, I saw Craig's post... I saw Gabe's this morning, but I figured it needed a thread of it's own (before it highjacked the dream job thread).

i like it for what it is.... a concept. it has massive potential with minimal reworking to akin it to the current design. the mini has been considered by most to be "overstyled" so why not take it further?

DO IT

It has a mean little shark face and the rally lights look like clumsy braces! HA HA HA HA HA!!! Kind of a funky Porsche crossed with a Matrix....YUCK!

 And to me, the current MINI is classic, not overstyled whatsoever. Compared to all the bulging tonka toys the other marques are offering, our MINIs look almost vintage, already! LOL!

I have to admit I love the idea of having a suicide door added though... would add an element of functionality and cool to an already awesome car (the current one).

I think the concepts behing it are good...and that's what it is a concept...look at the kewl factors...like:

the rally lights integrated into the bumper...that's kewl!! and a bigger hood scoop...also I like the sleeker look...

now alot of it I don't care for but taking the few kewl things and adding them to what we have now...that would be kewl....

The FX45 theme even carries over to the wheels (although there is a little bit of S-lite in the concept wheels too).

Now just add a splash of TT and you've got it!

I knew there was a reason I like the FX45!!

But that MINI mock-up is way too aggressive; if that's the direction they go in, they'll lose a lot of customers IMO... the MINI is so successful because it appeals to such a wide range of people. That model appeals to a much smaller segment of the population.

You also lose a lot of the great sightlines with the roof sloping down like that in back, and the recessed headlights are just plain mean looking. Don't like it at all...

I think it is a step in the wrong direction.

It's always interesting to see what designs come up.
From a practical viewpoint don't you think that the rear roof line is too low and that it would create quite a loss of vision and more blindspots?

The front styling is very aggressive. I agree with Clo, about as friendly as a hungry great white shark on a bad day while you are swimming with seals.

To me if it were flat red I would expect "HeLLboy" to step out of it. Only room for one seat with him in there. He might be only 6'5" but his big right arm/hand takes up quite a chunk of space.

Yes! A brick, plain and simple, is what's so cool about the MINI! And it has a wide open, friendly face! That mock-up is just plain nasty! Ptui!

Probably not a bigger blind spot than the convertible has!

concept car

To me it looks a bit like those Chevron ad claymation cars... like it will start talking any second.... and complaining about what sort of gasoline it's getting!

The design student who won this contest did great work, but I don't like the squished roof. It looks too much like a VW Bug to me.
