Yeah. The article didn't much attempt to compare the mindsets of owners of each, that might be the more interesting part. I happen to live two miles from the assembly plants for the H1 (civilian and military) and the H2 and I see a lot of them everyday. But to drive one to buy groceries, to waste that much fossil fuel, to spend that much jack for such a heavy, lumbering machine... I don't get it. It's not about safety, unless these owners think they are preparing for war. If it's about intimidation... well, that's a scarey thought.

Godspeed.

i really don't find see the appeal of something like a Hummer. ok, if your using it for work duty, i might be able to understand. but if your gonna buy it just to buy it, thats kinda dumb.

I can see buying the H1. That thing pulls off some serious moves off-road. Scales wicked-angled rock faces that normal 4x4s would slip right off of, climbs over all kinds of obstacles that would hang up most other 4x4s. The thing is an off-road marvel. If I had the coin to shell out, I'd buy an H1 for sure. For fun and off roading purposes.
But to acquire one just for the street is ridiculous. They're such a wide, big, gas guzzlin', view-blocking, obstruction, it makes ya wonder how and why they ever made it to street-legal status. Them be fightin' words in the sight of Schwarzenegger. But........really. The thing's a baheamoth.
As for the H2. Well that's just ridiculous. Not even a match to the off-road capability of the H1. Looks too conservative in comparisson the the H1. Again.....too much of a waste to be on the streets. And it's just a glorified Tahoe or Suburban (which ever it is).
Damn SUVs. Unless one would need one for work or purposes it's intended for, leave them on the dealer lots. So they can pile up and let the manufacturers know they're not needed. And to stop coming out with new ones for crap sakes!
Vent off. Stepping away from the soapbox. Havin' a smoke.
Cheers,

Neat article, apple vs. orange, David vs. Goliath. Another factor these cars have in common is detailed in the latest Consumer Reports: black dot for reliability, red dot for customer satisfaction. The only other vehicles that can brag of this distinction are the Corvette and the Volvo XC90

Yet H2 sales have dropped drastically this year, while the Mini is still going relatively strong. Jimbo

I'd rather have one of the classic Land Rovers for off-roading!

Excellent read...of course I might be a little biased since it worked out in the MINI's favor.

as the article states, most people prefer the comfort and size of the hummer

i am with everyone they are nothing but gas drinking monsters that gets people killed, but to the common car buyer, size justifies cost (and that's the mini's biggest negative point); to the common car buyer, bigger is safer (maybe passively, but not actively), to the common car buyer, it has a commanding view of the road and makes you king of the road (and it leads to the 'king of the road, i am invlunaerable feeling, the 'get out of my way or i'll crush you with my giant tires! thoughts)

yet to the common car buyer, the mini's just an expensive car, nothing more.. those of us here are obiviously more into cars

also notice motortrend also picked the mini? but then most publications prefer good handling to truck utility.. i'd love to see this article in one of those SUV magazines and see what they say!

don't think a h2 is that strong to run over a car

But a H1..that's a different story

Old article but still a goodie!

I posted this on another thread but did you happen to notice that the MINI has more leg and shoulder room than the Hummer and only an inch less headroom?
