R50/53 R53 Nav question
Yes it's possible but a very big task.

It is difficult enough that you'd probably want to sell your car and get another with Nav already installed.

Its a big project, some people that have the chronopack have a little less thing and items to buy.

And it begs the question whether it makes any sense to install it at all. It is a 15 year old Nav system (received very minor changes during its lifetime). They have even stopped publishing new maps for it.
I am in the opposite situation. I have ZERO use for the nav and would love to have the original SpeedO instead. But after lots of research I found it to be WAY to much money to justify and WAY WAY to much trouble with the install.

I just want it so I can gut it out and put a nexus 7 there instead, running harries laptimer/torque pro/solostorm/etc etc.
The only nice thing about factory nav is it moves warning lights to the speedo/tach and it has a nifty fuel gauge
One of my cars has chrono, the ohter does not, I find the center cluster equally useless and the chrono stuff is all fake anyway

You can delete just the Nav screen. A Nexus 7 is too large to fit but you can use a phablet (Galaxy Note, Nexus 6P, etc).

The nav unit is do dated, it used CD'S IN THE EARLY units, and DVD'S in the later units....the drive was under the passangerside seat if I recall....
It's a 16-20 year old GPS at best....imo get a mount, Cravenspeed makes some beautiful ones, and use a phone, or even a separate unit...some units, usually labeled LMT (LIFETIME MAPS +TRAFFIC) have some features that are beyong what the car ever had, but are still years behind Google maps....
If you are worried about data on a phone, or lack of connectivity, you can download maps for a HUGE area, and ise....almost ZERO data will be used, and they will still work (no traffic) in areas without cell coverage.
The traffic feature on the old standalone units is data that piggybacks on HD RADIO....so if you are outside an urban area, you won't get that either....and the maps on a portable unit will require updating by connecting to a computer on occasion.

If you use them for your phone, data only sim chips are FREE, just pay the $20 a GB (same as your phone) for the data....phone is $20, unlimited talk and text, plus data...no plans, no lost $$ for unused data, international roaming for data is the same price.
Great service....I once paid Verizon about $100 a month (international data was crazy, so just shut off data roaming most times)....now I pay $40-45 most months, even if I go international!!
Networks are T-Mobile, Sprint, and US-CELLULAR....the phone jumps between them...so Google-fi makes 3 weaker providers into a GOOD network at about 50% the cost
If you use more than 5gb a month, it might not make $ sense, but you could have 50 data Sims...lol...no fee, heck Google even page the SHIPPING!!
GUESS you could set you phone up as a hotspot (also free on Fi)do that with your current carrier, and use an old phone for a semi permanent mounted gps in the car, with downloaded maps....heck...it could download updates on your home WiFi when you are home....

Lol....I really hope you are trying to be funny!! Best priced cell phone service I have ever used.....and the Nexus 6p was priced very good too....
Most Google services are Free $$ wise....and if you are worried about "data" or privacy, just use a fake name....lol
I get tons of free stuff from Google....
I pay for nothing (except cell phone service) in cash....they flash a few advertisements ....but I trust them more than yahoo or NAM....heck...their customers service is GREAT to deal with...if I could switch to them as an Internet provider from Comcast, I would pay EXTRA just to avoid the jerks...
Google maps is great....you give up (if you do it live) a tiny bit of data about traffic conditions to help other users....do it offline...then nothing.
With privacy, you are either in or out...
WITH GOOGLE, I am comfortable cause they give me (imo) value ....others are sleezy, but Google has always been open and honest....they simply have more to lose if they mess it up..
Oh yeah....free photo backup, unlimited amount, free E-mail (sure a robot scans it for adds, but the spam filtering is FANTASTIC), FREE Google docs, free storage (much more than apple), and you get more if you become a "guide" and do reviews.

Google Project Fi uses Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular: https://fi.google.com/about/faq/#network-and-coverage
You don't need all 3, just be in a T-Mobile covered location to activate....easy to do at work, etc.
It doesn't fit all use cases...larger data users (more than 3gb a line, maybe 5) or family plan users can do about the same elsewhere....just as some rural users....but customer service and great international coverage.....
Honestly, was a Verizon customer for 15+ years....my bill is now half...never looked back.
Zero extra costs (for data) for vacations with my phone....no worries, life is good.
