I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but Perhaps you all could help me out and let me know what you think would be a fair price for this MCS I have found online while hunting for my first Mini. I really like the look of it but I am not sure about the asking price. Mind you I haven't seen the car in person, I've just been hunting online. Here is how it is listed:
2006 MCS - Asking Price $12500
For sale is an adult owned, very clean and well maintained 2006 Mini Cooper S.
Miles: 72,***
Fully loaded
Smogged/Registered
Clean Title
Manual
Recent service includes:
-New upgraded clutch and pressure plate
-Oil change (synthetic)
-New serpentine belt
-Supercharger fluid change
-New tires (Hankook Ventus R-53 Less 100miles)
Its a track car, not a daily driver; is that what you want?
I'm looking for a bit of both I guess, like a high performance daily driver. That's probably why I kinda like it, though I don't care for the changed out steering wheel and seats. I figured I could make due or change them out if I couldn't live with it.
looks like an autox toy, doesn't say what suspensions its on, and with all those mods im not sure if I would pay that much especially if it didn't have a diff.
that being said, the paint looks fairly decent, although the wheels look worn and all the basics are covered so you wouldn't have to do it
This car is going to appeal only to a very small number of potential Mini buyers that are out there looking for a car. Not many people are willing to take on the maintenance of a car that has been beat on. Because of that I would certainly negotiate the price. Start at 10 and see where it goes.
This one is listed in the SF Bay Area. Less miles, advertising 240hp, and more stock looking. No affiliation with the seller, just something I saw the other day.
Those seat belt harnesses are not mounted properly, at least the one on the passenger seat for sure. $12,500 for a 2006 S is way high. This thing isn't even a JCW.
I'm in agreement, this happens all the time, esp with modified cars, a person who has invested time and effort into something can easily over value it, and not realize that in many cases it just doesn't translate to most others.
Not a horrible car, some worthwhile upgrades, just not worth the asking price.

Both of them are incorrect. They are supposed to be mounted around the horizontal bar. The passengers are mounted into the floor and the drivers belts appear to be zip tied to the bar (who thought that was a good idea?).
If you are in a state with inspections you will not pass due to the lack of a steering wheel airbag (and possibly some of the other air bags) and the replacement of the factory seatbelts. While the Odometer may read 74k mi this car has been used hard and probably has the equivalent of 100k+ mi of wear.

There's a big difference between wanting a high performance driver and a track car.
That black car doesn't mention anything about any real horsepower gains. Compare it to that super nice white car rb showed. They have a dyno sheet from a dedicated Mini shop. With the other parts mentioned in the ad, its almost a perfect r53 with very low miles for less than the black one.
The black car has a roll cage and a bunch of other items that would be nice to have if you wanted to autocross. I dont race, so i dont know the track car market at all , but it seems like it would probably be cheaper to build one yourself.
First off let me say thank you to all that replied. I appreciate your input and welcome more. As pretty much everyone has stated, My gut tells me it is overpriced and I would be better off finding one like that White one RB-MINI posted. I really like that white one... To bad it is way up north.
I've flown to buy a car (Miata) and flown to buy a motorcycle (Harley Davidson). I never considered the extra cost to be part of the vehicle cost. I just thought of the cost being for a neat mini-vacation/adventure.
Also, if I'm shopping for an older used car I would definitely shop somewhere in the south/south west. The under carriage of my '13 looks like it just came off the show room floor.
A little curious about the white car. Seems like something is missing in the description (like maybe BVH, header, injectors?). As I have the same cam, exhaust and RMW tune and get 210 hp with injectors and 15% pulley
After looking at the san Francisco craigslist stuff, there are some pretty nice cars for sale in that area. A GP for sale, a low mile JCW, and even that 05 r53 with 49k mile for $6900 looks pretty good (despite being an automatic)

He is probably advertising the flywheel HP. 210 wheel HP is around 245 flywheel HP.
