Hello I'm trying to figure out how to get roughly 400hp out of my mini. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Forge your motor with Pistons/rods, ARP rod bolts and head bolts. You will need a new clutch, LSD, custom intercooler with plumbing, dump the supercharge and add a Garett turbo. You will need a tune and maybe a standalone system like Motec to control your turbo car. With labor and everything it will be around $15,000-20,000 mQubed Motorsport, Manic Tuning Dealer

I can't help but wonder if post #1 is an indication of a troll.

No troll. Just not very good with the more complex parts of cars.

Never mind just saw the part about dropping the supercharger. How do you do that?

It can be done that way or with a different Supercharger but either way you need to upgrade all internals and be prepared to spend some cash.. Contact RMW in CA. for more info..

Unless you have $20,000+ to give a shop to do it for you (maybe much more)......you had better have some mad engine building, tuning, and fabricating skills under your belt.

You would be better off to take that money, buy a used LS1 Camaro or GTO, put a single turbo on it, and have a 650+hp daily driver

I would be willing to bet otherwise. The only thing a 400hp mini will do is spin the front tires......and I doubt it would have good street manners, definitely not a car that would be a daily driver.

So what's your background in custom motors and tuning? Is this something you are actually going to try to attempt......or are you just trolling?

Since you say you "are not very good with the complex part of cars"....I'm guessing this is just a fantasy, and far from becoming a reality.

Not far from reality, got the money to put into the car. I've read about 400hp minis that were race/daily drivers. All I did was ask a question about what it would take. Not trolling at all.

I'll bite.

I wouldn't waste my money. Traction is going to be your issue and that is not going to get solved, period. Folks build high HP cars to go fast out of the hole. That will never get accomplished on this platform.

So what would you suggest to be reasonable to be able to do road racing/daily driver?

What kind of road racing are you wanting to do? Just zip down some twisty roads for fun on the weekends, or are you talking about actual sanctioned events?

What mods do you currently have on your mini?

reasonable is a big valve/cam head, full bolt ons and a tune

I think you mean HPDE? Racing have rules, and if you do a lot of mods you get to race full aero race cars

I wanna sell my 135i and by an ex formula mazda car, open wheel looks like fun, and you can get older cars for under 20k

Most R53 owners seems pretty happy with a new exhaust, header, aftermarket pulley, lots of suspension stuff, and brake improvements. That will get you a fun car that handles great.

Getting an honest 250hp out of an R53 starts to get expensive.....not many people are making that kind of power.

When you start talking about a 400hp mini, that's a whole different ball game....in a completely different ball park.

What race series are you planning on running? What class? If you want to be serious about winning, you should start there. Some classes may limit your mods.

I was originally thinking of doing the Stage 4 from madness motorworks.

That 265hp from the $8,000 stage 4 kit is a long way from the 400hp you originally said you were looking for...

Thought it would be a starting point but I'm taking your advice about the 400hp wouldn't be reasonable.

This is correct, there have only been a handful of true 400hp+ Mini's ever and all of them have been full 20k+ builds involving an extreme amount of effort and patience.

Remember this is only a 2700lb car, 265whp is an extremely respectable power to weight ratio, and that's $8k+, after that cost per HP grows exponentially, esp if it's not going to be a track only car.

Take your time, do everything but a Big Valve Head and see what you think from there, that's where the bigger money starts if you still think you want to go farther.
(And yes, all of this depends on class rules for anything more serious than a weekend fun run around a road course)
