Can I install a muffler strap on my 2003 Mini Cooper S without taking the whole exhaust system down? I think I can, but how do you get those rubber grommets off the car. I also see there are two spot welds between bottom of the straps and the muffler. Let me know what you think.
You're talking about replacing the factory strap that holds the mufflers up? If so, yes you can do this without taking down the whole exhaust - I have done it. It's a little tricky but there will be enough room.
My muffler and straps are gone, I took my Mini Cooper 2006 to a shop to have Controller arms and bushes, Once the guy finished I noticed how bad the muffler has rusted on the outside and the strap was done so I brought a new strap $22 bucks.
He said he put it on for forty dollars 🙄
I don't think so..it looks to be and easy do it yourself job. Im just going to purchase two-2 ton stands
And left the back up with the mini tire jack that came $22bucks new strap for muffler See how the old muffler looks?? I will be buying a new one in September
with the car remove the right rear tire and do it myself.by looking at the photos I've just took I realized once I get the rear of the car up on the stands I could probably use the mini jack to push the muffler upward so I could fastened the two bolts being I'll be doing this by myself.

Reason: I just saw something I need to mention
Yes, definitely doable without dropping exhaust. When we got the car, it was missing a lower strap on the passenger side. Super quick and easy.
Last week, we found the outer passenger side upper hanger mount was broken, a common failure apparently. My son did the repair last night and had all done in 40 mins or so. No rust or broken bolts so he was very lucky not to have any issues. I just held the light and supervised, a nice break and good for him to gain some confidence in his abilities.
