Driving lights for MCS, Mini or aftermarket?

What do you crazy a***d Mini folks recommend for Driving Lights? Factory Mini at $800.00 installed? OR Aftermarket 2 or 4 light system? MA thought any other than Mini might void the warrantee on car???. Your thoughts and recommendations much appreciated. I think the 4 light system looks the best!

I think that it is pretty well established that driving lights are a labor intensive, but not too difficult thing to add to your car. Paying $750 - $900 to have $150 worth of lights added to your car seems outrageous. There has been talk that adding more than two lights may lead to restricted air flow and overheating, especially on MC/S's, but that is apocryphal. Part of the joy of having a Mini is being different, so if something is "What most people have," I usually want no part of it. If you are less adventurous, you can't go wrong with the PIAA kits. Hella also makes a kit, but it is harder to find. Some vendors sell just the mounting brackets, and you can mount just about anything you want. I am about to mount classic Mini WIPAC driving lamps. Whatever floats your boat.

P.S. - there have been reports that the lights from Mini have had a corrosion problem.

Yes they will, you will just need to trim a small portion to allow it to fit it.

Counterpoint: I bought the OEM, MINI, driving lights and really like the look. Less "off-road" than some other options. I installed them myself, with a little help on the electrical hook-up. Saved a bundle and got the look I wanted. My 2c. Had them two years and 52k miles.

Godspeed.

Piaa 540

PIAA540 from PiloRacing. I have the trigger wired up to a switched fuse so I can turn on/off as long as the car is on.

Living in a mostly urban area, Driving lights would not be very functional for me. However, I love the way they look. If I get them, I'm likely have the mini dealer install Piaas from mini mania to avoid any warranty snafus.

But...has anyone ever mounted fog lamps ralleye-style? Maybe with amber bulbs and aimed low? I'd rather have fog lamps there than in the bumpers and even If I rarely use them, they have a "use" instead of just making more light for the hi beams.

And this is the kind of newbie question that only a non-owner could ask, I suppose (I plan on ordering in January):

Has anyone ever made or considered a faux driving lamp kit? What I'm thinking of would be chromed plastic lamp housings with clear faces but no bulbs. Ideally, they would not require permanent rivet attachments. Maybe they could just clip on to the grill and be removable. They'd have to come off before going through a car wash although I doubt that I'll be using automatic car washes at all.

I bet some of those spring clamp lights with the spun aluminum shades from Lowes would work - maybe with some Saran wrap stretched over the bells.

Then we can move on to fake exhaust tips. I think 16 are about right.

Rice-a-roni!

Since I'm going to buy an extended warranty and maybe even an extended service warranty, I don't want the dealer to have a single reason to claim that anything adjacent to or near the lights is not covered. So, I'm going to pay them $500 to do a job I could easily do myself. And then, the lights are going to be rarely used. I've accepted that.
