I want (sorta) an EB/W Cooper.....so where is EB in the Cooper configurator? The Canadian site has it. Isn't a bugger trying to sort out what is US spec and what isn't? And don't you just LOVE being treated differently than everybody else? (I know we have different laws and standards and marketing here but it just makes my head hurt!!! Bah!!)
Hi,
I just took a look at the new '05 configurator. It's more incomplete than it is slow. The speeds really not too awful, but there are some holes in it. It has some elements of the image (like the windows!) missing in the rear view picture, and in configuring the interior on an MC, much of the interior is just...not there!
So, they are clearly still WORKING on it. (I HOPE they are still working on it!)
I am, however, concerned by some of what is being shown. The available wheel options are MUCH less varied than before, though there are some new style wheel types available, none of which interest me much. Liquid Yellow (my ordered color) is listed as metallic, with the extra cost associated, but that price doesn't show on the screen to the left where your options get tallied up. Sport stripes are not shown at all as an option on the MC. Carbon fiber dash and door panel inserts look pretty neat, and are only $150, but my MINI has already been made and is on the slow boat to California as I type this. It looks like an option you can buy as an aftermarket add on, so I guess that's all right. Heck, I probably won't get it anyway.
When I chose sport seats, then chose the new cloth interior (Octagon), I was told that I couldn't combine those two options, but that is EXACTLY how my car IS configured, so...it'll be...er...interesting to see what I get upon delivery! That's a thought that troubles me, especially since I've seen the combination in pics from MINI2, and I like it. What will I get? Hopefully what I ordered. I'll let you know. (I'm still hoping I got the anthracite headliner as well, but we'll see about that.) No leather seat option is listed for the MC at all! (WHAT?!)
Now that I've seen what the exterior chrome package looks like, I do think it's a bit much. and I surely miss the old chrome bumper insert styling. However, w/o the chrome package, there's no chrome at all in the back, and some chrome there does make the car a bit less naked looking, at least from the rear. That being said, there is no substitute for seeing these options in person, or at least in good owner taken pictures on the web. Real world lighting conditions make for a HUGE difference in how these things look. So, all you unwary newbies out there, please, please take a look at REAL pictures of the options you are interested in. (It's nearly impossible to see everything at a dealer lot, because these cars still don't stay on the lot long.)
I can tell, just from looking at what there is of the new configurator, that MINI is going down a styling path that wants to look modern sporty (whatever that means), and leaves the classy sport look behind. I wish I had ordered a '04 when I had the chance. Don't get me wrong, I'll be floored by my '05 MINI when she arrives, I'm sure (I hope), and I'm still planning to be a very happy fella with the new sweetheart. I'll be especially happy with the '05 MINI after even further stylistic changes appear over the coming years. (Ok, I'm being unfair about some things. There are several new features I like very much, but the MINI seems to be sliding stylistically, and even as regards the available number of options. It's just sad, and not something I want to dwell on much, as there is not much I can do about it.)
Oh well, motor on.

well, it's not very browser friendly (Aol 8.0), can't see the bottom of the
screen, and the top bar likes to scoot up out of sight preventing closure of
the window. looks like they still have some work to do on it.
