I think it is 'The Distance' by Cake.
Cake the best car band.

These are all great suggestions guys. I've burned three Cd's so far (called MiniCooperOnline Mix 1, 2, and 3) and I'm working on a fourth now! Thanks for rocking my motor!

I completely forgot... I have a CD called "Short Music for Short People".
101 songs by punk bands, all 30 seconds or less. I'll have to add it to
my MINI CD case. Great stuff.

>>Tool. And more Tool. Lots of bass, good for driving. Especially (on their latest album)Disposition, Reflection, Parabol, and The Grudge. And Schism. Nirvana is also really good, and if you don't have any of their CDs, the greatest hits one outlines them. And Ani DiFranco, and The Sex Pistols, and Pink Floyd.

Finally! "Hooker with a *****" will be the first song played in the MINI.

Also anything by Henry Rollins, Black Flag, Ramones.

Followed by Wayne Newton

I have to stand up and put my vote in for Sugar Ray, Floored. Take a listen and I'm sure this song will go on everyone's play list.

The best one is Columbus by Mary Black. You MUST have it.

Gotta have Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode! I think that will be the first song played in my car when I get it.
Also check out RJD2. Good hip-hop created from just sampling old soul/funk 45's, creating a sort of "virtual band".

I have been compiling a ton of mix CDs while waiting for my MCS to arrive. It sounds like you're interested in the kind of music I put on my "Big Big Beats Mix". It's all electronic stuff with lots of driving bass, but these tracks all have great hooks, and don't ever get monotonous the way that some dance music does.

"Paid In Full" (Seven Minutes of Madness) (Coldcut Remix) - Eric B. and Rakim
"Black Steel" - Tricky
"Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" - Daft Punk
"Ya Mama" - Fatboy Slim
"Out of Space" - The Prodigy
"Bodyrock" - Moby
"Spybreak (short one) - The Propellerheads
"Cowgirl" - Underworld
"Busy Child" - The Crystal Method
"Nothing Left 2" - Orbital
"Leave Home" - The Chemical Brothers
"Start the Commotion" - Wise Guys

Hope you like these. I've also recently put together a Classic/Hard Rock driving mix, a Funk mix, and a Motoring mix that is lots of good-time alternative rock, including the Chris and Tad songs from the MINI productions. Let me know if you're interested and I'll post them. Cheers

Common- The Light

Honestly I probably will drive in silence on my way home from picking my MINI up. I just want to take in the sounds of the drive. There will be plenty of time for me to listen to my music while driving later, but this first drive will most likely be in silence.
I must be crazy, to be so in love with a car that isn't even here yet. Sheeesh!

SoopaCoopa, great picks!

I have been contemplating playing "Where The Streets Have No Name" by U2
as the first song in the Mini when it arrives. When this song gets rolling
it is absolutely awesome.

Pittsburgh Mark,
Can you provide us with the list of songs on your mix CD's? Curious what
you picked since you seem to have semi similar tastes in music as I do.

Motor On, Loudly

I got a couple of PMs asking me to post some of my other mixes, so here's my "Motoring Mix":

"The Distance" - Cake
"Rush" - Big Audio Dynamite II
"Cold Busted" - Chris and Tad
"Heavy Things" - Phish
"One Week" - Bare Naked Ladies
"Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" - Paul Simon
"Sunshine Pig" - Chris and Tad
"19-2000" - Gorillaz
"Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" - They Might Be Giants
"Been Caught Stealing" - Jane's Addiction
"Sexx Laws" - Beck
"Skankin' to the Beat" - Fishbone
"Underground" - Ben Folds Five
"Surf Wax America" - Weezer
"What I Got" - Sublime
"Jenny Says" - Cowboy Mouth
"Groove Is In the Heart" - D-Lite
"Love Shack" - B-52's
"Video Killed the Radio Star" - Presidents of the USA

Yes, all 19 tracks will fit on one CD with room to spare (it's only about 60min). Cheers!

My wife put in a CD of all 70's cartoon theme songs, each one covered by a modern band. I thought it would be stupid, but let me tell you, the looks you get pulling up to a red light with the theme from "Hong Kong Phooey" blaring are priceless!

P.S. Fat Albert too!
