>>Ah, Frank Zappa, one of the best musicians of all time. I will be sure to check out that track. Hey man, maybe you're the perfect person to ask...Zappa had one tune I heard years ago, but I haven't heard it since. I loved the tune but cant remember the name. All I know about it was the lyric "The girls got a very large mouth but her teeth look OK". Does that particular lyric ring a bell?

Ha! Funny that Zappa comes up in a thread today. I was listening to Sheik
Yerbouti today with the windows down, and didn't realize how loud I was singing
along to "Jewish Princess" until I stopped at a traffic light and the people next
to me were giving me some strange looks... Whoops!

Pittsburgh Mark,

Try "Sleep Now In The Fire" by Rage Against the Machine. It's one of my favorite songs. Really gets your juices moving.

PS: Moving to Pittsburgh this June. Looking to move into the North Hills. Hope to see you and others at a mini meet sometime next year!

Motor On

Yes!! That's one of my favorites too!!
That's "Charlies Mouth"!! And that's Steve Vai and Zappa playing together!! Awsome track! I just had a shiver run down my spine just thinking about it!
You will definately love Jazz from Hell! It's legendary. There's parts so odd you will have to roll up the windows!!

I know it' is hokey but "Skidmarks on my heart" by the GO GO's should be on the list. I also included "Riding on the metro" by Berlin. Add a dash of Paul Simon's "Late in the evening" and you will never want to stop motoring!

For a "can't miss" driving tune how about some old school...
Bohemian Rapsody - Queen

pehaps even...
God Save the Queen - Sex Pistols

Road to Ensenada - Lyle Lovett (how'd that get in there?)

Love will tear us apart - Joy Division

Mercury Blues - David Lindley

Story of my Life - Social Distortion

(and something from Miles - Sketches of Spain, or Kind of Blue)

My Top 5 Motoring tunes (right now)

"Sunshine Pig" by Chris and Tad
"The Face of the Earth " by The Dismemberment Plan
"I'll Drink to That" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
"Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" by The White Stripes
"Dancin' Fool" by Frank Zappa (had to throw that in, been on a Sheik Yerbouti
kick lately.)

Also, just picked up the "Source Tags & Codes" album by
And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead... great album, will get lots
of play time in the MINI. Just got turned on to those guys, they rock.

Just saw that "Bohemian Rhapsody" was voted the best song ever...
What a joke. Worse than baseball fans voting Cal Ripken's
streak as the #1 baseball moment. (Sorry to Baltimore fans, but c'mon...)

Everyone knows that the best song ever was "Me So Horny" by the
2 Live Crew, just no one else will come out and admit it.

Zappa, I completely agree! I love that song. I rented Mr. Deeds the other night and that song was featured in a HILARIOUS scene. Great motoring tune.

My two cents:
- Anything by Led Zeppelin, particularly "Fool in the Rain" & "Kashmir", Jimmy Page is a musical GOD, (make sure these songs are up loud enough to make your teeth hurt. GREAT motoring song). I can't tell you how many times I've been pulled over for speeding while listening to Zeppelin. Something about that music just makes my right foot heavy.

Other great tunes for motoring:
- Steve McQueen - Sheryl Crow
- Radar Love - Golden Earring
- Let's Go - The Cars
- Dirty Deeds, Back in Black & Highway to Hell - AC/DC
- Low Rider - WAR
- New York Groove - Ace Frehley
- American Girl - Tom Petty
- The latest CDs from The White Stripes and The Strokes
- Steeley Dan's Aja CD
- Dark Side of the Moon CD - Pink Floyd
- ANYTHING by Cake (these guys love cars as much as they love music and it shows in their lyrics. GREAT for motoring)!
- Anything by Prince
- Southern Cross by CSN - cover version by Jimmy Buffett (always makes me want to open my sunroof, not matter what the weather is outside). Hell, ANYTHING by Buffett is great while motoring.

My Guilty Pleasures/Great Sing-along tunes:
- Escape - Rupert Holmes
- Thunder Island - Jay Ferguson
- These Boots are Made For Walkin - Nancy Sinatra
- Any cheesy one-hit-wonder from the 80's
(OK, I sing these with my windows UP and the sunroof CLOSED but they are still fun while motoring)!

Push the outside of the envelope and try everything written by Frank Zappa. Eons before most of your time, but eons to meet his revile. He's brilliant, simplely brilliant.

Or mellow out with some Dred Zepplin, Mr Bungle or Psychefunkapus. Warren Zevon winds my clock.

And let's not forget, all Pink Floyd at 103 dB is better than rap.

Tool. And more Tool. Lots of bass, good for driving. Especially (on their latest album)Disposition, Reflection, Parabol, and The Grudge. And Schism. Nirvana is also really good, and if you don't have any of their CDs, the greatest hits one outlines them. And Ani DiFranco, and The Sex Pistols, and Pink Floyd.

sndwave: did you see Warren Zevon on Letterman last week? He was basically THE SHOW! Warren's dying of lung cancer...and was cracking jokes about his situation! It was a great, great show! He sang 3 tunes...such a great songwriter! And, YES to Zappa!

Cheers!

Gotta put some Rush on the list ... someone told me that if you turn the fader so all the sound come out the back speakers, you can drive faster than ever ... just to try and get away from Geddy Lee's voice!

Actually on the way home tonight I was playing "Red Sector A" and "Kid Gloves" from Grace Under Pressure about 8 times tonight! I love Geddy's voice, in fact you couldn't tell the difference between his and mine...
