DIY CAI progress

Decided I had more time than money available to pull together a CAI system. I thought about taking some pictures along the way but then that would just show off how bad my welding skills are. Minus the $60 K&N cone filter (RX-3800) and the silicone intake hose (which you have to buy separately anyways) I think I'll have about $50 to $60 into the box. That includes some aluminum plate I have coming (~$25) that I plan to make a cover out of. The box itself is a single piece of sheet metal that I welded on some some mounting tabs and some 2.5 steel pipe for the hose and filter attachment. I used some ceramic caliper paint, but I may change to black or silver. WIll see how it looks after adding the aluminum cover.

Looks like a reasonable facsimile of a DDM unit. Should work great

I must admit I had some inspiration. So far so good. My aluminum plate came in today so hopefully I can get a cover made this weekend. I really like the change in sound with this setup and I feel like it has really made a difference in the power, but its possible the stock filter that was in there was that in need of a change. It looked like something that I would find in my shop vac.

Looks good, lots of homemade intakes out there, another low cost option is the megan racing heat shield and the K&N filter option.
