Can bad vacuum pump cause fuel pump codes?

I just replaced the timing chain on my '09 Clubman S with 70,000 miles (right before the class action settlement), and when firing up the car still had the clattering from the vanos side of the valve cover. I pulled the line from the vacuum pump off the valve cover and the noise went away, so I figure my vacuum pump is failing. The odd thing is that now my car is throwing high pressure fuel pump codes. The car starts right up with no obvious fuel pump issue. Can a failing vacuum system cause problems with the fuel delivery? This is obviously an effort to avoid replacing the $1K fuel pump at the moment
