I got my great little R53 last May...
I need better gauges.
I don't like to loose vent with P3cars solution...
I don't want to install additional wires and modify the engine to put conventional set up...
I don't want scangaugeII (any more, had it for years in previous MINIs)...
I want those nice looking CravenSpeed (OBDII) nGauges, only to find out they don't work on first generation due to lack of software (old protocol???).
Come on, CravenSpeed!
Is it that hard?
You don't want my money?
The OEM gauges are all NLA, upper and lower gauges for Gen 1 MINIs :(. The P3 cars , you don't loose the vent function , still vents, just loose the rotation function of the vent. And it looks very clean installed. Its a quick install.
Actually, you do loose "control" over the vent once P3cars device is in (no adjustment of direction or closing it if you don't want it). Corect me if I'm wrong please.
Second, when I am in my "driving position" and comfortable handling the steering wheel (in it's ideal position FOR ME), I don't see the left vent where the gauge should be...
It is blocked by JCW steering wheel rim. I just can not "glance" at the P3 gauge like with all other visible displays (tach in front thru steering wheel or "pizza" speedo in the middle). So, that set up won't be any different from what I have now: ScangaugeII mounted bellow toggle switches (just like OEM additional gauges- the reason I never with with those).
I might as well keep SG then...
Ideally, I loved what I had in my R55s and R61 (JCW OEM gauges right next to tach in the middle).
I love CravenSpeed (old) mounting solution with "X" bracket and 52mm cups (just got one of the very last "X" brackets available from Detroit Tuned). I really like the design and finish of the hardware. BUT, so disappointing not being able to use their version og OBDII gauges on my car...
Thanks, I am aware of it.
But that is fugly!
I am trying to get rid of SG all together. Never liked the "design" of it. It was (and still is) a necessity only, rather than being "in sync" with design of the MINI interior. I am sure I'm not alone thinking SG is one ugly display. All "boxy", looks more like USSR made gadget than anything...
I simply want to get "analog looking" gauges (with needle) with out doing all "dirty work" of installing sensors and wires in my gorgeous MINI...
This is how interior looks now (before I put in a SG)
If you want a scan gauge that will fit in a 52mm pod there's the Aeroforce Interceptor ...
The gauge displays 2 parameters at a time, but can be programmed to cycle through up to 8 parameters during a user determined period of time. This way you can monitor several items without taking any other actions.
Yea, Thought you meant the vent does not vent air, yea, no close or direction. But its seamless look, integration, and color coded to match the color of the other leds and display. Its the right vent, next to the speedo and in upright seating position you can see it. Unless you have the seat much closer, then it does catch the thicker steering wheel.
Good luck on the search.

Didn't realize this was a requirement ... maybe I won't be swapping my Scangauge for one of these.
It's not clear if it does or not. It just says (on web page) that "some older models" require this. I am not sure if R53 is one of those...
I sent the question to Aeroforce, keep you posted.
In any case, that is not a big issue. Cigarette lighter plug comes to mind...

I sent an email to Aeroforce asking if they have pictures of the brushed aluminum bezel with silver face gauge. The President got back to me and said they would in about 3 weeks. Apparently they're going to have an MINI logo option for the gauge face ...
I replied back asking about the 12V power requirement and if amber lighting (to match stock) might be a future option.

I don't like messing with anything electrical.
That logo looks nice!
When will it be available?
Got the answer: it does require 12V power hook up...
I don't like either to mess with wires, but decided to go and do it after all. Spent last night reading all possible posts on NAM about "add a fuse" or "tap a fuse" and I will go for it... (it really looks simple...)
