Need a new transmission - please help!
'05 R50 with the 5 speed, 160k miles
Driving to and from work today my transmission popped out of 5th gear a few times. Came home and did some investigating... turns out I blew a hole in the housing somehow, right at the top, to the side and below the battery box
Seeing as I'll need a whole new transmission one way or the other, and since the car's got quite a few miles on it, I'd like to spend as little as possible without taking any unnecessary chances as to reliability etc.
First question - There's a trans from a 2011 Clubman S on CL right now, assuming it's a manual (seller hasn't called me back yet), would this fit?
Really, what are my options? I'd just as soon put in a newer transmission, 5 vs 6 speed doesn't really concern me, I just want something that's unlikely to give me problems down the road.
Any advice is welcome here, I'm still fuming at the prospect of installing a new trans before the snow hits and I can't ride my motorcycle any more.

May have some luck sourcing a used one on www.car-part.com. Cheapest I found though was about $1295. At my old shop we've sourced quite a few used transmissions from there for customers. I think I saw someone mention that WMW (Vendor on here) has a few part outs and has parts available for specific MINI's. Might contact him and see if he has one laying around that'll work for your MINI... Good luck.

Not a chance I'll shell out $1300 for a used trans... either way I really appreciate the tip.
There's another 6 speed on the local CL from a 2002 for $800 that supposedly works perfectly, although there's obviously no way to know.
So the question remains, what years 5 or 6 speed WILL fit?
