Car Show Tips

Ok, I have been to a couple car shows now. Each time the winner is someone who has put graphics on the exterior of their Mini. Doesnt anyone look at the interiors? I think the only way to win a show is to put a decal on your Mini. What does everyone think?

I have a bunch of interior mods, but most people dont even look at the inside of the car.

I just showed at the DUBS superseries here in Chicago, and when it was my turn for my car to be judged. All they asked me was anything under the hood? Anything in the Trunk? And they peeked inside the interior. Thats it. All the cars there had either flame jobs or decals. I dont think Im ever going to put flames on the MINI. The one thing that I am lacking is ICE. I think that is a very crucial part of these shows. So next month, Im going all out on the car audio.

Perhaps if you set up an easel with a big sign, giving the specs on your car, and include a series of photos of the details inside. It might get the judge's attention!

How about a turbo kit or M7 venom kit? That'll catch their attention.

My car isn't for show, but I wouldn't put decals on it either other than
the factory bonnet stripe... or some small membership decals as accent.

to win a car show... your car has to be unique in all aspecs... i own an all show 1961 austin mini cooper and this car takes home at everyshow i bring it to.... not to sound so cocky but it took a whole lot of time to realize it....when it comes to judging... they do pay attention to the interior but the exterior has to draw the attention... i've been showing my car for about 5 years... and this car is far from done but at the same time pay attention to details.... cleanliness is everything... build your car to perfection... decals are meant to promote your sponsors so only put them if needed otherwise keep them off unless it is body graphics and the theme is proper.. email me if tips needed at t_nievera@yahoo.com .... my 2002 cooper s is currently in developement for a new kit which i will keep posted....

Final summed up most of it.

We have been showing the mini since we got it in Nov of 02, we have since had numerous 2nd's and one best of show (in an all mini show).

The key to winning is having a clean and eye catching car.

Also, as suggested above, make a sign board that lists your different modifications, and you may also want to get a rendering done of what you want the mini to look like when it's completed. Oh and also, when showing be sure to have doors open, seats back and seat belts buckled. Just makes the car look cleaner.

Here are some pics of our mini (my gf's and I) http://www.djkaotix.com/sugar/

and our new interior http://www.djkaotix.com/new/ the interior pics kinda suck but you will get the idea.

Note: Interior is not complete have more to add

I have a full time show car and I have also been a car show judge. Graphics don't catch my attention for more points... usually less as I look around the edges to find wax residue. It is all about how clean your car is!

I suggest you come up with a theme for your car. When I show my '65 VW Camper I have the "Surf" theme. When I show my SCCA Miata I have a "Racer" theme with door numbers, helmet and even some small cones.

When showing my MINI I came up with the "Italian Job" theme as my car is identical to the Chili Red pne in the movie. I have a framed movie poster, some Johnny Lightning Italian Job cars and I want to get some gold like bars for the turnk.

i agree with the theme idea..... theme is also everything....do what fits your needs.... if u like it then do it.... your car is your car.... some people will like it and some one... but if it makes you happy then go all the way with your ideas.... remember, minis are smile now cars.... so keep smiling....
